Any tips to eliminate cowl squeak?

On my 66 98 convertible, I've developed a nasty cowl squeak that happens mostly when the car is cold.

I know the problem is coming from the cowl cover (on the outside, behind the hood), but it presents as a dash squeak. It's driving me nuts.

I've greased the rubber shim, shot silicone spray all over the edges, tried isolating the cover with closed cell foam and tried isolating the cover edges with vinyl tape.

So far, the only fix has been removing it. Which isn't a fix.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
cf

funny enough, I was changing my lower window channel and noticed there is a support brace that basically supports the dash panel, window channel which is attached to the cowl, this is not welded on, but there is a cushion type foam tape? that separates it from the dash board, mine was in bits, and there was probably metal to metal squeaking there, I would have a look up under the dash, below the window to see if you have the same? I only saw mine as I removed the insulation etc, just a thought. you might be able to put some type of insulator even double faced foam tape if you can gget there abnd if that is the problem, I don't know just trying to help

Foam inserts

My 66 98 and Starfire has one on either side. Crushed to dust. I'll remake using one as a pattern.

My 2011 Ford Flex squeaked like crazy when we first bought it (less than 100 miles on it). It turns out there is a TSB to install the dash using foam tape. Once we had the TSB done it never squeaked again.
