What a waste

I'm really sick and tired of seeing this stupid limo all over the interwebs for the last month or so, but I only just noticed today that it has not one but TWO sets of early Vista roof glass. What a waste!

No one ever said that. It was built as a stunt to get into the Guiness book for "longest car" or some such BS. They apparently had to cut it in half just to ship it to FL for a "restoration". That's why it's a waste of two good sets of roof glass.

Fate of "The American Dream," World's Longest Limo, in Hands of Florida Man

Trophy wife or low hanging fruit? Crazy.

It's not articulated, so there are very few places where you could even take that mess.

You would need wi-fi to communicate with each end.

From the article:

Ohrberg built the car in two sections, which are joined in the middle by a hinge (that required an operator separate from the driver) for navigating tighter corners; the hinge could also be set to a fixed position, so that the limo was rigid over its entire length.

It still likely couldn't make a regular 90º turn on a road. By "tighter corners" they might mean a curve in a multi-lane interstate highway.

I think it should have larger side view mirrors.

Can you imagine how much of a dog that car must be to drive? Even with 2 70s era Cadillac smog motors it couldn't go anywhere fast.

It's ridiculous - a bucket of wasted materials.

It looks to be the front and the middle are the first vehicle, and the hinge is behind the middle wheels so the back trailers.

Talking

The longer the car the shorter the ride.

This vehicle could split into two drivable sections. My very close friends built trailers to assist in moving this behemoth. I spent my summers as a kid visiting those friends and staring at pics of The American Dream limo on the trailer they built. So, to me, its not so much a monstrosity but, a fun memory to see this thread. Gonna give my friends a call to see how they are doing.

One of the pictures of the car in the article shows a TURBO decal on the front fender, which made me wonder what power plant it had.

WOW! Cranky much? How many of those roofs have gone to bone yards around the country? And now complaining about two sets in a car that isn't yours and will probably never have an effect on parts availability for the automotive world. How 'bout celebrating that it required Olds parts to create such a world record vehicle. Could it have been made without them? Maybe, but it wasn't so enjoy that our preferred vehicle brand is a part of it. If you still can't stand it, don't look at it.

When this car was built, in the mid 80s, junkyards were full of Vista Cruisers. They were just old cars back then, even nice ones.
