recharged my AC, dang it actually works. the Frigidaire sucks some power though, the cost of being cool..hehe
Learned something new though via the web. Per the owner's manual once the AC is engaged it remains engaged until you power cycle the ignition. Well if you verify your neutral safety is working properly, do this first and verify the starter will not work in Drive gears. With compressor engaged from AC use and you want to disengage it, in drive, you can move key to start and (must be out of AC mode) the compressor will release, the hold relay resets! This may be old news , but new to me
Took a Top 25 this morning at a local town charity show, wasn’t expecting anything as there were some top flight cars IMO that far outclassed my bucket of bolts. My friend in his ‘32 Ford coupe and I ran down the backroads to the show and it was pretty neat seeing his car in my rear view the whole ride. Kind of like an in person ZZ Top video!
Spent the last 2-days washing/cleaning the car after getting caught in heavy rains coming home from a show this past Sunday. Now that I've got it clean again I'll be able to start in with final prep for another Show this coming Sunday. I still need to go over all the body panels with detail spray, polish all the chrome, and retreat the vinyl top with conditioner/UV protectant.
Decided I’d had enough of making excuses for the 30 year old shade tree paint job on this car. Sanded and buffed over a couple days - super happy with the results!
Before I started:
I am a terrible sander and body man
Heavy cut compound followed by finishing compound
Still some light scratches visible, but this isn't a show car

Dammm nice paint. Did you paint it in the garage ?
Painted long ago and far away - and definitely outside when it happened lol I didn't think there was enough paint on the car to even buff, much less sand three times. The garage looked like a murder scene...
Last week I dropped the 1964 4-Jet carb off to my local carb-guru. It will come back bead-blasted, rebuilt, and engine-tuned. I'll post pics when I have it. In the meantime, I got the intake into the blasting cabinet for a refresh. I also cleaned up all the rough casting seams with a carbide bit. Hit it with a fresh coat of engine paint and baked it in the oven to cure the coat. New intake gaskets arrived from Fusick yesterday...so we are almost ready to go! Before and after! Original 1964 intake. Yes, I am aware that the color is not correct for the year and engine, but a red intake bolted on a gold engine would look silly!
Sounds like a good time to me! Seen many photos of cruises on Woodward, it’s on my Bucket List!
I did the Woodward Dream Cruise a few years back...certainly lots to see. Getting a parking spot in one of the lots along the route is key. The business owners know it, and rent out spots to participants. What I didn't like about doing the actual cruise was all the burnouts happening around me. Now, don't get me wrong...I appreciate a good burnout as much as the next guy, BUT...I don't like the proximity of them. Woodward basically becomes a classic car traffic jam...so I get a little antsy when the guy one-car-length behind or in the lane next to me does a big smoky burn!

I would find that unsettling as well! Will have to file that away for the day I get to Woodward.
I have gone to a couple of major shows this summer. one was put on by the Oldsmobile Club of Ontario, the other was put on by a town called Stoufville Whitchurch. The show put on by the town was the 52 year, and apparently they did the shows during covid as well!
I have pics of both, and they are both open to all makes of cars. At the Olds Ontario show I took a Judges Choice plaque.

Is that second to the last dark green 442 yours? Looks just like the one I restored here in Colorado.
ROLLED THROUGH 11,000 MILES tonight on club cruise since purchasing this car 4 years ago...just keeps getting better and better...especially with the air working finally...
Great pics, Maddoctor! Thanks for sharing!
Bolton, eh? I grew up in Orangeville and went to high school in Caledon East. The Orangeville kids and the Bolton kids at school always had a rivalry.

Thank you. I live in Bolton now but grew up in Rexdale. I love the 2 door 98. Sporty but still luxurious.

Picked up my new custom built 3” heavy wall driveshaft this morning for my Olds. Going to install and road test it tomorrow morning, hopefully this puts the vibration problem to rest!

Mike - That looks really nice. Good luck with the install and I hope it solves the vibration issue for you! 🤞

It should, Chris, the original drive shaft on the left was shortened back in 1990 when I installed the TH700R4 in the car. The machine shop I used didn’t get it right when the cut the end and welded it back on. It was .060 out at the trans yoke end. I never noticed the vibration with the original high gears in the rear end. With the 3:73 gear in it now I feel the vibration in the trans tunnel forward of the shift on the floor.
I’m looking forward to getting onto the highway tomorrow morning!
Mike - Thanks for the explanation about the cause of the vibration. Please be sure and give us an update after the test drive.
Took the car out earlier this morning. I merged onto the highway and rolled into the throttle to 65 onto 75 onto 85 and 90. Night and day difference even on deceleration. Anything over 70 felt like something was going to fly off. Glad that’s handled and I can keep up with traffic again.

Mike - That's great news, glad the new driveshaft solved your vibration issue! 👍 Thanks for the update!
Wow, you ran it up to 90mph, even with the OD in the 700R, you must have been turning some serious RPM's with 3.73's in the rear! I baby mine 95% of the time, rarely pushing it above 65mph even on the major multiple lane 70mph highways. I've had it up to 75mph only once and thought I felt a little front wheel imbalance, so I shut it down. I'm not seeing abnormal tire wear though, so it might just have been the pavement I was on at the time.

Truth be told I wasn’t paying attention to the tachometer just watching what was in front of me. I did have the converter locked and to my ear it didn’t sound like it was racing up too badly. I didn’t stay at 90 for long but did maintain 75 for a bit and the tach was around 2400 with the converter locked. That’s acceptable to me. I do love the throttle response with the 3:73’s, but the fuel mileage will suffer I’m sure.

Well, pretty understandable why you wouldn't be glancing at the Tach zooming along above 75mph! 2400 RPM's at 75mph sounds pretty good. With 3.23's, TH400, and 26" tires (235/60/15's), I'm turning 2700 RPM's at 65mph and 2900 at 70mph, so I like the sound of your set-up much better, but thankfully I don't do much highway driving at higher speeds.
