Well I finished taking the right quarter to bare metal along trunk and half way up the sail panel
First 40 grit then 80 grit once all the paint was off then 120 grit Tomorrow, it's both quarters primed and to take the trunk lid off ,so I can still work on it with shop tools

 

I sold it.

Started to clean off the plastic window in my vert. I have a few more coats to take down in order to clear it up better, but I am happy with the first results.

My rear quarter panels and deck lid were primed for paint

 

I gutted the interior and pulled the front clip. I am getting all of the little things that my 442 is missing.

 

I welded in the front half of my new floorpan, the rear section is only screwed in place. I want to set the body back down on the frame before I start spot-welding the rocker panels to make sure everything sits properly on the frame mounts. I still have about 150 spot welds yet to be done.

 

I talked to Distributor Dave who is converting my distributor to HEI and putting the module into an original UHV ignition box. It will look like its has original K66 electronic ign. only it will be better, more reliable with parts available anywhere. He said he has about 2-3 hours work left until finished.... cant wait to get it!!!
Also put another coat of paint on the rearend. I havnt worked on it much lately but hope to resume work soon, I will post pics when that time comes.

 

I didn't work on it but I did look at it in the garage today it's been five months since she was home lol

 

I'm doing a transmission fluid change and filter on my 71 vert.

 

In the midst of a little engine maintenance...new timing chain/gears, oil pump, pan gasket, water pump and a little tidying up on my red '76 98 Regency motor. After removing the oil pump last night, I now know where all the little plastic chunks from my cam gear went!

 

Can anyone tell me what they did, or what tools they specifically used to bleed the front right caliper of their Cutlass like mine? Never thought I would have this problem But I cannot find the right tool (seems like it would be an open end wrench) to reach the bleeder screw nut. Nothing reaches deep to get to it. My short 3/8 wrench hits the thick wheel frame behind to get it on. And a deep well socket won't fit either because the heavy metal wheel chassis thingy frame is in the way. I did put a new wheel cyclinder on, it's the right part, never compared the old one to the new one as I tossed the oioly one away. The bleeder screw is on a 45 degree angle, just like the passenger side. So what's a simple task so difficult to accomplish?

I used and off set bleeding wrench looks like a Z one side is 5/16 the other is 3/8

 

Th400 needed a 2 1 band basically the front band pic it up tomorrow hopefully done by Tuesday

 

Over the holiday break, I got some work done on my burgundy '76 98. I cleaned up and painted my new water pump, timing cover, oil pan and harmonic balancer. Oil pan has a coat of black POR-15 on it for now but I will top-coat it in the proper blue tonight hopefully. The timing cover and balancer are back in and the water pump should be going in over the next couple of days/nights as well. I'm not trying to make a show engine on this car like I did my black 98 but as long as I'm working on parts, I still like to make them look pretty nice without going too crazy.

 

I need to get that same tool offset bleeding wrench for the brake bleeders. Just figured out what happened though. The old caliper has a very short bleeder screw, yet the new caliper has a very long bleeder screw, thus making bleeding impossible. Couldn't find the old caliper to compare, as it got lost on my workbench. Found it today, so I switched out the new bleeder screw for the new one. Gotta watch these reman companies. They drove me nuts.

 

Finally got my cleaned up and painted oil pan in last night. Motor mounts are back in and the engine is finally resting back on the frame after being suspended on my homemade cradle for about 2 weeks. Tonight I'm hoping to paint a little more, get the starter and water and fuel pumps in.

 

I picked up a 1ton picker today maybe a little light for the big block but it's mainly to load the block in and out of the car in between machine work

Went to an electric choke instead of the hot air choke on my 394/4GC. How nice it starts and kicks down now. I should have done this a long time ago. Highly recommended.

 

Waiting for my DS front floor pan to start welding, meanwhile started to damp the floor and wiring the audio coponents...

Aluminium butyl sheets without overlap, seams sealed with self adhesive aluminium tape sticking like hell.

 

When you apply the material to the floor you DAMP out the vibrations. If you DAMPEN it, you make it wet.

I finally polished my wheel skirt paint touch up job to a OK degree and installed it (one bolt one hook) and it took a half hour!....Geese where are the grand kids when you need them.Had to lay on the ground on my back like a reptile to hook it up. Sure would be nice to have the knees of a 30 year old again.....Tedd

Continued damping today and ripped out the cross section of the front light wiring to fit in my relais loom.

Turned out my headlamp holders on a lathe for the larger connector sealing caps of my Bosch H1 headlights.

Fixed some wires that were barely twisted together and insulated with paper masking tape

 

Today I piled more boxes on top of the cover.

 

After finally getting a rebuilt TBI body, and changing the fuel pump, the engine runs fine, and no hot start issues. I thought I would just be able to drive it for a while...well, the car had a different idea...imagine that. No sooner than I fixed the pump and TBI, I am informed by another driver that my brake lights are not working. Here we go again. I unhooked the wires at the brake switch, and checked for power. I found 3 volts??? I figured that 3 volts was not enough to power the lights, so I checked the fuse. The bottom connector for the fuse was pushed back into the fuse block. Try as I might, I could not pull it from the front side. I tried putting my hand up behind the dash, and nothing again. I removed the dash to get a better view of the back of the fuse block...no good. Next to come out is the dash pad...still no good. Well, digging further, I pulled the dash support (includes pulling the cluster, and the steering column). Finally I can see the back of the fuse block. I dig through the wires, and pull the offending connector out of the block to find that the little catch tang is folded against the side of the connector. I repositioned it, and jammed the connector back into the fuse block. I put the fuse in and pulled it out a couple of times, and it held. In the process of pulling the dash support, I damaged the E-brake release, and had to replace that as well (I just happened to have a spare). I finally put everything back and now maybe I can drive it for a while without making repairs on it every week.

 

Spending money on it. Bought a rebuild kit for the front end, power steering pump and new-old gear box , and am waiting for the top plates and new floor console to install in the car. Wife is not happy,happy,happy.

Hey, this is WI and it is winter!

 

Yesterday evening I pretty much got all the front suspension rebuilt. Installed the control arms that had new bushing and ball joints put UMI 1" lowering springs in and put CPP C5 corvette big brake and spindle conversion hubs on and new shocks. About the only thing left to do is put new steering linkages on.

 

I bought a p.s. unit for my 65 cutlass which did not have p.s on it from a guy on this site. It came today around 5:30 p.m. and later after supper I had it installed on the car. Tomorrow it comes back off to clean and paint.

 

I drove mine to work.

About to go to where it is stored and take the seats out, respray the interior, respray the trunk, remove the A/C system (which isn't fully set-up, and I will not be utilizing), and remove the windshield washer motor to try to fix.

 

Finish my delicious Ziti, go to the garage and begin cleaning 200 baggies worth of different fasteners.

I'm getting ready to get rid of the garage requirement for a home I'm looking for. Opens up many more homes on market which means I get rid of the F'n Cutlass once and for all.

 

Man I feel you here today I found a kitten had found its way into the garage and getting that little guy out was a chore !!

 

Yeah, but I won't be able to do that during the summer - 115 degree temps, a blazing sun with no cloud cover, and black vinyl seats means no convertible driving.

 

Picked up my new hood from the paint shop, Creative Customs in St Louis. Looks awesome!
