weatherstrip adhesive removal

Does anyone know how to remove weatherstripping adhesive without damaging the paint?

Whomever replaced the trunk weatherstripping on my cutlass before I bought it did a very sloppy job of applying the glue. They also used the incorrect weatherstriping (but that is beside the point). I want to replace it, but I did not want to start until a had a safer way to remove the adhesive without taking the paint up also.

3M remover wont damage the paint? I've heard good and bad things about it, so I was holding off.

Thanks. I'll give it a try as soon as the new weatherstripping comes through the mail.

Get a set of these or something similar http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece...set-95832.html.

Used them and the 3M stuff to get glue residue off the gray wagon's door w/strips. 3M also makes a weatherstrip release agent that helps.

A CD cut into small pieces make for plastic scrapers that can remove big chunks and be easy on paint. GooGone works for lighter coats.
