W-31 Badge on Rallye 350

The W-31 badge isn't stock, right?

No, it is not. The Rallye 350 cars got the same 310 hp 350-4bbl engine as the Cutlass Supreme.

"Original matching numbers 350/310 HP Rocket engine" and yet equipped with #8 heads.

It may well be the original, numbers-matching block, which would take seconds to verify. It was not uncommon to install later model, large chamber heads to drop CR in the mid-1970s when premium unleaded was difficult to get, especially during the gas crises of the time when prices went through the roof. It could be difficult to get any gasoline at any octane.

A w-31 specced rallye would be a fun car, but, even if I were to assemble one, the w-31 badges would have to stay off due to causing a falsehood to be propagated.

I always thought the same thing. Should have made a W-31 Rallye 350.

Gee another questionable Mecum car. How odd 🥴

I’m not even sure the Cutlass badge is correct.
Isn’t that a F85 bench?

Yup. VIN is 332770M254200, that's an F-85 V8.

You guys are harsh, car is listed as an auction “star” so I would consider that “documented!” 🤔

I was surprised that it hammered at $44k, vs this '66 L69 A/C convertible for "only" $51,700.

They're both unrealistic, so what's your point?

I value the L69 in that neighborhood, but not the Rallye.

My point was that most auction cars are just that- gussied up enough to bring some money. Throw the difficulty of documenting an Olds on top, and you're asking for trouble. The auctions are for entertainment purposes only. I wouldn't bid even if I had unlimited funds.

Agree. And to take advantage of auction frenzy, too. Still, fun to watch. I record, then watch at 3x speed, stopping to watch a car about once every recorded hour.

All the Rallye 350"s had the Cutlass badge on the front fenders.
