It may well be the original, numbers-matching block, which would take seconds to verify. It was not uncommon to install later model, large chamber heads to drop CR in the mid-1970s when premium unleaded was difficult to get, especially during the gas crises of the time when prices went through the roof. It could be difficult to get any gasoline at any octane.

I was surprised that it hammered at $44k, vs this '66 L69 A/C convertible for "only" $51,700.

My point was that most auction cars are just that- gussied up enough to bring some money. Throw the difficulty of documenting an Olds on top, and you're asking for trouble. The auctions are for entertainment purposes only. I wouldn't bid even if I had unlimited funds.
