hi....need help (physical, not mentally.....)
about to buy a 1964 olds dynamic 88 convertible.
but the top will not go down. moving the up/down switch does nothing.
unable to find the dirtyword fuse for it, at least looking under the dash.
also, when the engine runs, if the up/down switch is then moved, the
engine shuts off.
I definitely positively absoulutely would appreciate any help/comment/opinions on this dumb dirtyword cotton-picking snot-sucking problem.
thanks

Messing with a switch that kills the motor probably won't help much.
Rather than look for a fuse, which is probably a circuit breaker under the hood, may not help much either, if the switch is acting as you describe.
Can you get a wiring diagram for the car?
Going by my experience with later top pumps, and ASSUMING your system is electro-hydraulic - the pump will have 2 large wires. Feeding 12V to one wire makes it go one way, other wire goes the other way.
So, bypass all the fusing and switching trouble spots and run your own 12V hot wire back to the pump. Distach the connector, feed your 12V into the wire of your choice, and see what happens. If that still does not make it go, then the electrohydraulic unit must be faulty.

wow. thanks for that info. the pump motor does have 2 big
wires going to it. I do not have a wiring diagram, as I have
not traded for it at this point in time; however that will change
this afternoon as I will make a deal on it. at least the top is
UP and not down (especially in this weird global warming we
have....)
thanks again

Octania gives good info. Circuit breaker on my 65 98 is located on firewall between master cylinder and inner fenderwell. Get a service manual, may find wiring diagram at wildaboutcars.com, they have manuals in sections for download, but nothing beats your own copy.
