Throttle Cable
Throttle Cable
1969 442, replaced the sticky factory original cable with an inline tube reproduction. I trashed the old one, so I don't have one to compare to. Oops. My problem is that the secondaries aren't opening but about 20%. Obviously, not much adjustment here, so maybe I ordered the wrong cable, like for a small block or something. Anyone know the proper cable length?
Make sure the carpet of floor mats aren’t keeping the pedal off the floor.
You might be able to bend the throttle cable brackets, the metal rod on the gas pedal itself, or a little of each until the throttle opens all the way.
Is the plastic and rubber bushing in place on the throttle cable carburetor end?

A little tweak at the pedal, another at the carb linkage, might get you the extra 20% you need.
The cable might be the correct one. If you think about it, if the gas pedal pulls the cable out of the casing 2 inches, it’s going to pull the cable INTO the casing the same distance at the carb. For it to pull the throttle open further, the starting point must be moved.

Do the primary throttle blades open completely?
Is the choke closed? Maybe the choke interlock is keeping the secondary from opening.
Push the fast idle cam lever down, use something to hold it down when you open the throttle. Have a helper floor the throttle while you look down the secondary side of the carb.

I bought 2 different replacement throttle cables for my 69 with a 70 455. My original and 2 replacement would not open the carb fully, it was missing the last 3/4" of cable pull using the leaded ball on the cable(s) on the gas peddle end
So I added a metal spacer sleeve where the lead ball meets the gas peddle receiver pocket and it works 100%, opens the carb Wide Open now. I never could figure out why the Stock Cable lengths were not correct. That was 3 tears ago and it is still fine. I even changed the Carb Throttle Holder Bracket with a non original one and didn't help so I went back to the original bracket.
