IMHO you're putting up the money to restore it so choose the exact color that you want. If you were going to the dealer to buy a new car and loved the blue one you wouldn't pick the white one because the trade in value might be higher.

Seem like I read somewhere [and the more learned like W machine can chime in] that in a show points were not deducted for a change in color as long as the change was to a color avaliable that year.

According to the OCA Nationals show car rules as long as the car was available in the color originally you can change it.

I have the "Coveted" dash - custom color code and I have a Rallye Red car, which had a number (78 I think) also ...

Unless its a super rare car and its a proper color change I doubt it will hurt the value. As long as you don't pick a real ugly color.But remember its your car and your the one who is going to drive it everyday so paint it what ever color you want.
