Teepo's new present

Here are pics of her new battery!! It's supposed to be "correct" but I don't know. I'm sure if it isn't, you all will let me know! If it isn't, oh well. For what I paid for it, it's going in, and she's going to like it! I do have a "girl" question, though.... could even be a "blonde" question..... now don't laugh too hard... but why doesn't it have posts on it? I know nothing about batteries! Save me, Blue!

Hi Sandy, it certainly looks correct and it is a side terminal battery, not a top post. My 71 had the original spring ring top post cables, and I guess 72 was the first year for side post. Do you have a top post battery in there now?

Hi Darrell!! Nope - she has a side post battery in her now. Don't batteries come with the posts in them?? Or do I - or should I say Blue () - take out the ones on the old battery and put them in the new battery? God, I'm such a girl, lol!

What does your battery cable end look like?

Does it have a screw in the middle of the battery cable end that connects to your battery? Or is it 2 top post connectors on the side of the battery using top post cables?

Either way, it's not a big deal to hook up your new battery.

Can you post a picture of the battery connections?

Seems most batteries you buy now have both top an side posts. They will work in either kind of car like a 71 or 72 and the dealer only has to carry the one type. Your battery is correct and looks nice. I think batteries are often ignored in restorations. Now you will probably get bigger trophies. Enjoy.

Very nice...although she'd probably prefer the sheepskin wheel covers while she's hibernating this winter.
If its anything like an old side post I had once the terminals should just screw out. Not sure about Delcos but those look like threads in the post holes in the second pic.

I have two extra batteries but had to buy a Delco for the Aurora because it has the side vents. Since the battery is under the back seat, the side vents have to be hooked up...just like the Vette I owned. Nice original looking piece. I went with the Canadian Tire battery that is 1000 CCA (there's a TLA for you Col) and guaranteed for as long as I own the 442. First bought it in 1981.

A battery!
Mr. Chebelle is really getting to you isn't he?
He's been seriously looking at an LS6 convertible, says it's only 85k and a deal.
He's only 51, retired and loaded, if he was single I'd divorce Laura and marry him.

Did you go to the place in Hudson and get it Sandy??, probably about ten minutes from your house. They make the batteries for everybody in the country it seems.
Is it all charged up and ready to go?

What's the big deal?, it has fittings that the bolts on the ends of the battery cables thread into? I think you saw me do your battery disconnect Sandy, just reverse it and forward it.
That battery is heavy and you have to manuever it a little to get it in there, has a new clamp so that's not going to be a problem.
If you want to stop over around mid Saturday morning I can handle it, have that lousy wedding to go to later.
What are you going to do with the old one?
I charge a substantial battery disposal fee.

Now you have to get a Battery Tender to protect your investment over the winter.

......What does your battery cable end look like?

Darrell.... I have no idea, lol! I really don't know what they look like - I never pay any attention! Batteries scare me. I don't touch them unless I have to.

Jamesbo.... It came with one of those DANGER sticker tag things. I don't know where it goes - has a hole in one end like it hangs on something. It has a little booklet too, and all sorts of little cards saying DO NOT ADD ANYTHING.

Trophy for best battery, I can just see it now, as the judges swoon at the site and the chebby owner sulks to the sidelines mumbling "damn she did it again"

It's a maintenance free battery so don't mess it up maintenancing it Sandy. All those caps and stuff do nothing but look good.

The old wet resto batteries only lasted a few years, I went through a couple and swore I'd never get another one but these new type look good and should last.

You have to have all those tags and booklets in place on the battery for the state of Ohio battery licensing examination station test Sandy.

You actually may want a warning tag on there, at least when you let somebody who doesn't know mess with the battery like Don Sitts or..... Larry.
It probably hangs off the cable or something if it has a hole in it, keep the stuff with your owner's manual in the glove, you did get a manual...right???

Side post battery cables with disconnect. ------> battery.JPG

Mr. Chebelle, (his name is Mike and he's a real nice guy BTW), has original type bias ply RWL Goodyear Polyglas tires for more correctness too Sandy.

I can't wait to tell him to watch his back because there's a girl in a green Cutlass out gunning for him.
I will too!

You crack me up, lol!!!! Divorce Laura and marry him..... Yes I went to Antique Auto Battery - look at the 3rd pic - it's on the box, lol!

As far as I know it's all charged and ready. She told me that it should last 2 months just sitting, without being charged. I told her that I go out and start the car every 2 weeks in the winter when it's put away. She said it should hold the charge then. I dunno! If you tell me I need one of those tender things, I'll get one. You know I listen to you, lol!!

Larry about had a fit when I brought the battery in! He just couldn't understand why I needed a new one. "What's wrong with the one in the car"?? I said it has corrosion on the terminal all the time, and I don't want the underneath of the hood getting messed up from fumes and crap. And besides..... It's my money and my car! So there!!! Guess I told him, huh?

Thanks for "volunteering" to put it in for me, lol!! It is a heavy sucker. And batteries scare me! Did you paint the battery tray when you had her? I want to wash all the stuff off good with baking soda and I was going to paint the tray if it needed it. I still haven't worked on the loose turn signal wire yet.

I can come out sometime before noon if that's ok. I have some running to do first. I sure don't want to hold you up from the wedding you're looking so forward to!! I don't know what to do with the old one. It's kinda like all the old parts I have off of her.... I'm waiting for Larry to tell me to get rid of the stuff, even though it's not in his way. He's just like that.

I'm not getting tires too, lol!!! I just wanted a new battery. I told you I was gonna get one. I didn't think about getting an "original" one until I got my magazine from Hagerty and there was an article in it about batteries. I read too much, lol! I could have paid a bunch of medical bills with what I spent on it, but oh well... ya only live once! And I love and enjoy my car sooooo much!!!

Next project is the trunk seal..... The guy doing the judging in Ravenna on Sunday ain't gonna give me a trophy cause it's not replaced yet. So I think I'm going to another show. She's won a lot with her trunk seal the way it is, so there Mr. Judge guy..... neener neener neener.

Just don't make it 11:59 Sandy, I need my afternoon nap or I get (even more) grouchy.

I wish I could of seen Larry's face, probably complained about you spending all of his inheritance like he always does to me.
He sure is is positive about that inheriting everything, what is his plan anyway???
Tell Larry you're going to sell the car so instead of going to car shows you can spend more quality time with him to become closer in your relationship. He'll never say another word about the car or spending money on parts again.

I think I painted the battery tray?
You shouldn't have anymore acid problems now in any case.
If you start the car every couple of weeks you shouldn't need a Battery Tender, just make sure to warm it up good when you do.

Those were his exact words, lol!!! "How much of my inheritance did you spend this time"? He just thinks that is sooooo funny.... the rest of that crap you talked about, forget it!! I won't show up at 11:59, lol!

Jamesbo..... where can I find out where it goes on a 72? Anyone out there got a 72 manual or book that would show it??

Checked in the 72 Service Manual & 442 Rest Guide but no pics.Imagine it would be like Jamesbo says if theres a hole in it that matches the Delco eye.
