Stop leak

This is not related to any car but concerns a John Deere 318 lawn tractor that is around 30 years old. It has developed a oil leak from a front seal. Does anyone recommend the use of stop leak, the pros and cons? I personally am not a big fan of a quick fix remedy. I would sooner repair it the correct way.

I wouldn't bother with snake oil. Does your tractor have a diesel engine in it? If so, it might have an oil cooler that could be clogged. None of the snake oils are well rated anyways.

Check you don't have a blocked breather and change the seal, Surely the best way to fix it long term. Snake oil remedies normally make the seals swell, temporarily helping cure leaks, but not a proper fix.
