Stolen 69 H\O Convertible

Yeah, one of the two. It was posted on another Olds site this AM

Be interesting to see how this unfolds:

It will be hard to sell it being one of two. Those who took it may not have know that. Could end up in a private collection or dumped somewhere.

"...an estimated value of $75,000..."

Seems a little low if it's real.

If it is one of two, and not a clone, why would you leave it in a parking lot, unsecured?

Wow what a nightmare. I hope it's returned safely. Things like this definitely wake me up to thinking of how I will secure my car if ever I have to leave it somewhere like this.

What's a good strategy? Remove the cap and wires? or battery?

Bad thing is; not far from Mexico, then overseas!
Punishment for theft - hand removal, is one of the few things I agree with that occurs in the Middle East!!
I really hate thieves!!!!!!!

Only way I'd leave one of those in a parking lot would be with 2 pit bulls - one chained to each end!!

maybe they didn't pay 75k for it. I have left my car in a hotel parking lot before, nervous has heck but what can you do. I have heard whole trailers being stolen with the cars in it.

I for one am not going to buy a trailer for a car I would only trailer once every ten years, especially when that trailer would now cost me almost as much as the car originally cost me. I know many folks think I'm nuts but I did not pay 100k for my car so even though some claim it is worth that much I drive it like its worth half of that. In other-words I enjoy it

Seems REAL low compared to the numbers I've heard thrown around.

Seems weird to me:
There were 3 i thought originally made. one was crashed by the Ford CEO back when it first was around and one is in a museum, the third is/was for sale for 650k and that is in California i thought. i bet this is a clone and they are just saying its real for news purposes....

yeah, Thats what I have heard and I did see the ads for the "real" one for way up there.

Two years ago at a Mecum auction there was a clone that sold for 45k but the buyer backed out, the seller was pissed so they put it through again - the second time around it didn't go any higher than 20k.

I'd assume it's a clone, as far as I know, one is the one for sale in Cali and the other is owned by an individual in Iowa, 3rd one crashed long ago. Unless the Cali one or Iowa one was passing through Amarillo TX, I'd assume its a clone. I'd say that news story had no idea if it was real or not, just filling copy with backround facts it found on the web.. as in the 1 of 2 made deal... Take that into account with the estimated value of $75k they put up there as well

I believe the owners name of the second car is Kelly Evans from Iowa? Spent some time talking to him at the 2002 Nationals in Lansing. 9 years ago and my memory is a little fuzzy lately so dont shoot me if the first name is incorrect, but the last name is definatly Evans.
Have 35mm photo's of the car and its protecto plate somewhere.

I remember that too. If this "stolen" 69 H/O is a clone, it indeed is worth about $20K-$25K. If it's real, you can't place a value on it. Not sure where they got the "$75,000" number, unless of course this is another case of insurance fraud.

All I can say is let's all watch out for people parting out a "real" or even a cloned '69 H/O. I would drop a dime quicker than a NY minute....

Unfortunately, that's probably exactly where it is now. My bets on south america. Had a guy in our Olds club with a Cutlass way beyond perfect. That got stolen too, never to be seen again. Not trying to be a wet a wet blanket here, but how many perfect 71' Cutlasses are there. Thieves like these cars too.

I like these battery powered infrared motion detectors. They are battery powered on both ends so you can bring it anywhere. This would be great for a hotel lot, I would put one in the car and one under it. If someone either gets in or moves the car the alarm would sound in your room, as long as your within 200 feet.

pop the cap and pull the rotor off and put it in your pocket, put the cap back on, noone will be able to start it now

Clone or not, it's one sweet ride. When accross the border US regestrations and/or bank liens mean nothing. Lots of Jeeps end up in south america this way, and US bicycles in asia too. There's really no defense against thieve's if they really want something. Think I'm a little safer than most, with my car stored in a locked garage, up high on a four post lift. Has a Crimestopper remote system on it, well as a key cable lock/ignition cut off hood lock. The garage door openers also a compact rolling code Crimestopper. Funny, as I'll take the car to shows, and pop the trunk with the remote fob to give a Coke, and frequently get asked if the car came that way from the factory. Answer, of course it did, all 70's Oldsmobiles had these.
