Stolen 66 442 Convertible
Not mine,l but figured I'd let everyone here know since this car is probably already in pieces. Please keep an eye out for parts....This would be a bummer for any of us, and another car gone forever..

( I just realized your not the original poster. Doh!)
No worries!! We should all keep an eye out if possible. I would only assume they will try to sell the parts (or the car) out of the state of Washington, (though most criminals are dumb-asses to begin with.) The big thing it seems like these days is craigslist out of state for all the small stuff. Who knows though. I emailed the guy to see if he would send me anything to throw up on here (pics etc.) haven't heard back yet.
I don't know the victims, and normally don't have time for this kind of stuff, but I can't imagine how much that must suck,.. even being a project car. I can't even fathom losing my car like that. I would hope that the Olds/Classic Car community would at least try to be cautious of where their used parts come from. I'm not sure how much it will help with finding the crooks, but any effort is better than nothing.
Just try to keep it in the back of your mind....thanks

Unfortunately, many don't realize how in demand these clean older cars are in different countries. It's quite common these cars end up in South America or Mexico. Even average cars with lots of rare parts are targets too. Good doing at least some basic anti-theft measures, as quite a joke from the factory. Collector car agreed value insurance isn't very much, and good chance of at least getting your money.

Agreed,.....Just heard from one of the family members and another 442 was stolen on Camano island (Just north of the first theft) one night earlier. These guys obviously had a plan, and aren't total rookies. There's a good chance they are in a container ready to be shipped off somewhere just as much as getting cut up. Ufortunetly there are no pics available at the moment, but I will be getting a VIN sometime tonight. This is a lesson for me, that's for sure. You never know who's watching/waiting.

Thanks for posting up my craigslist ad about my Uncles 442. Its great to see this response from a tragic situation. Until Bluemeanie sent me a e-mail requesting the plate # and vin, I had forgotten that I signed up on this site back in Nov of 2007 when I was looking for a ignition switch bezel for this 442 as a Christmas present for my uncle. While we are still struggling to find pics of this car (my uncle was never the car show type) I now have the License Plate 787 LEW (Washington State) and the VIN # is 338676M186821 This was just given to me by my brother over the phone, so there could be some confusion about the "Ones" in the Vin. Possible that they could be an I or lower case L. You guys would probably know more about that than I do. Again, thanks for the support guys

Ok after searching around the net, I found pics of a car very similar to my uncles 442. This is NOT my uncles car, for one.. its very clean and my uncles car had 3 years of dust on it minimum. Also, the wheels in these pics arent the same. My uncles car had white wall (thin strip) Pirelli tires on it and had the spoked oldsmobile hubcaps on factory steel mags (as he called them). My uncle is working on a detail list of things about the car that can identify it. He is a engine machinist by trade and is extremely detail oriented so the list will likely be quite extensive. I will post it up here in the next few days once I get the list from him. Thanks again for your help.

Tunes67... I spoke with who I believe was your brother (Mike) on the phone two hours ago and I'm glad you guys are all jumping on getting as much info together as possible. Hopefully it will help. As I told Mike I too had a 442 stolen back in '79. It had just gone thru a complete restoration and it was only the 3rd time I had it out since it had been completed. As much detail about the parts and not just the car might be helpful. If they took it to strip it and perhaps sell parts any discription about body panels, interior, exterior trim, instrument panel, anything you can think of that makes your uncles car unique. Good Luck I truly hope you can recover her. It can happen....
My uncle is very... picky. As particular as he is it has really amazed the entire family that he let this car get to the state that it is in. (He doesnt use the internet so I can say that without repercussions
) We just figured that when he retired in the next couple of years that he would then restore it. He has a spare engine in his shop that he was going to rebuild and put in the car while he completely rebuilt the original engine. With that said, a few details that I know about the car offhand are as follows:
Both front and rear bumpers were surface rusting and pitting and were going to need to be re-chromed eventually.
The top had been replaced years ago and while intact was getting a bit rotted from just dust and lack of use.
That ignition switch bezel never did get replaced.
From inside the trunk you could see where one of the body panels was repaired once, but at the moment I cant remember which side. My uncle will know when I get the list from him later.
The trunk also had a factory vacuum latch release button in the glove box. (At least I always thought it was factory)
The paint color on it (Firethorn Red) was not the original factory color but was supposed to be very close to it. The car was repainted shortly before my uncle bought the car, so the paint is likely 25-30 years old at a rough guess.
Anyway, thats all I can recall at the moment, but believe me.. my uncle will have many more minute details to add to this. So.. more to come.
Thanks again

hello blue meanie,
it would be a good idea to flood craigs list w/ that same ad you currently have, especially on the state line boarder towns.
While it may be on it's way to another location, there is a good chance there are scrap metal yards who do look through the listing on C/List.
Depending on the activity on those lists as much as it sucks to keep reliving it,reposting every week or 2 for a while might drum up some leads.
I wish you the best of luck and feel bad for your uncle.
