Sometime during the week of October 9th to 18th, 2007, These Cars were stolen from my property COMMERCE DRIVE EXIT 17 off Interstate 81 Abingdon, VA. From the tire tracts left at the scene a truck pulling a trailer with a backhoe or lifting type equipment was used to load vehicles

Guys, let's keep an eye open for this one. Hate to see any car stolen, especially an Oldsmobile, even if it is in the shape described. Good luck on the recovery of both cars.

 

BUMMER! I hope the police can find the cars quickly.

Oldsguy had a 76 Cutlass stolen about 3 weeks after he bought it. It turned up about 5 months later in the city impound but when we went to go get it the car wasn't there. It turns out city workers ended up stealing the car when it got to the lot. Either that or there was GROSS incompetence. Sorry about the bad story. I hope the same doesn't happen to you.

I hate to be bogus..... but you're never gonna find em.

I just threatened to kill a repo truck driver creeping around my block 2 weeks ago. I leave for work just before 4 am, and noticed a guy in a black van delivering newspapers to random houses on the block. Thank god I have an idea of which neighbors almost always have a regular newspaper delivery. I saw this jag creeping really slow and writing stuff down on a piece of notebook paper, as he threw newspapers.

And I was like......... Why is this guy so friggin slow???

So I got up 2 hrs early every night after that, and camped in the shrubs for a couple days. Same van, everyday, delivering papers to wrong houses. Then on the 4th day, I saw 2 guys on foot with hoodies on walk past, and one had a 2 way radio. Sure enough, the guy with the radio said something into it as if he was talking nonchalantly to his friend he was walking with.
45 seconds later..... A "cross" repo truck pulls up in front of my house and the guy walks right up onto my driveway to be met by me and a baseball bat.
The little ***** didn't even have a chance to catch a breath, and I said, If I ever see one of these trucks on my block again, I'm shooting you.

He gave me some bullshit about having to check the vin on my brother's Saturn and he was there to repo a Saturn from Donna Something or other. It's a 92 MOTHE**8Ck3R!!!!! It's paid for, trust me, And his name ain't friggin Donna.



Whoever took your cars probably had been planning for a decent amount of time if they were non runner cars. Probably someone within 5-10 min of your house is at least in on it if not the full culprit.

I have had a lot of stuff stolen throughout the last 9 years. Rims, stereos, hubcaps, mail, cigarettes, tools, etc. etc. you name it.... and I live in a decent neighborhood.

 

seeing as how there's only 3000 of those 87 442s, keep watching ebay J...keep watching.

 

I just hope that the thieves do the right thing and sell us the parts back dirt cheap. No offense bud, but I'd rather see them go to a resto project, than rot on a lawn ornament anyday.

The honda will hopefully get them a small amount of jail time after they are done parting out the Olds.

 

I don't know if I am for, or against chop shops yet.
As far as that 442 goes, that thing was near perfect, and didn't deserve it's fate.
The others were 4 door daily drivers, and that falls under the

George shot Lenny because...... scenario.


Maybe some guy wanted to start a taxi cab business and make a way for himself in America sooooo bad........

My room mate in college had his Firebird busted into and the culprit stole the CD player and 3 cans of Coke in his back seat. My room mate was a really odd guy. The Coke had been sitting in his car for a couple of years. We were hoping that whoever stole the CD player drank the Coke and died of Beri Beri, Typhus Fever, or some other horrible disease. If not that, then hopefully they had the worse case of Hershey squirts every.

 

i don't have enough space in the garage to park the cutlass there yet, and my dad probably plans on parking his mopar in there anyway...so i'm going to get some GNARLY THICK chain, like the kind they use on a ship anchor, and totally chain the cutlass to trees, light posts, other vehicles, buildings, etc...

or buy a large pitbull. cheaper than an alarm, and i'll just feed it the neighborhood children.

 

You are gonna need some serious fire power for all of those Idahoan hoodrats that you speak of.

They caught a few guys recently in KCMO. just driving there tow trucks around picking up cars & taking them to the crusher.My son who buys from the police tow lot said there were 5 or6 tow trucks impounded.Now even down here in the sticks the guys at the crusher are are asking for titles.The price was up to $90 a ton so I got rid of a few myself

 

My dad (Oldsguy) had a 76 Cutlass stolen in KCMO a couple of years ago. It is really bad there. After a few months the police said that they found his car. When he went to the impound lot to pick it up there was no car! Turns out that something happened and the car just "slipped through the cracks." IMHO the people at the impound lot saw how straight the car was and decided to steal it. There are a ton of dishonest people out there.

 

That was a very straight car, it was a '77.

Id like to thank J-Chicago for his post in this thread. Tonite the dogs went crazy
and I look out to find the security lights on and a hispanic guy coming up the
front steps.

We live on a dead end street so no thru traffic to notice anything in drives. I have
no sale sign out but I have noticed more than one car go up past our house and
the driver is looking up the driveway at my olds. If it hadnt been for this thread
and J's post I probably wouldnt have given it a 2nd thot.

I looked out but he didnt knock. I finally opened the door. He asked if my 1992
Nissan truck was for sale..

I think the guy was trying to find out if anybody was watching and when the dogs
barked he beat feet for the porch so if someone came to the door he wouldnt be
seen running for the street ;-)

My wife works but mostly Im home, still there are times when we are both out
and the Olds sits wide open. Sigh, I guess Ill have to do the chain routine also.

Man, around here if a guy cuts his hand on your window breaking into your house he can sue you for the friggin medical bill.

 

I was kidding. In Md you better not even look crossly at anone even
if they are inside your house doing you bodily harm!!

In 1988 we had an intruder that ended up trying to kill me. I finally
had to shoot him - from flat on my back on the living room floor with
him trying to kick my head off. This sucker was HUGE!!

The police had been called and the shooting took place some 15 min.
into the wait. Another 17 minutes before anyone got there (and they
hadnt even dispatched a car till 2 minutes after the 911 Op heard the
shot). Dominos could have baked and delivered a pizza in less time!

I was treated as the criminal and subsequently sued for 7.5 MILLION
dollars because (as the lawsuit stated) "I was obligated to protect
guests in my house".

The intruder was never charged with anything. Even my lawyers asked
why I would want him 'punished', afterall didnt I hurt him enuf???

He lost, but only after four years of phone harassment and shooting
up the front of our house (another crime never even investigated by
the cops).

I guess I sidetracked the thread, sorry.

I will be watching my cars and the traffic on the street more closely
tho.

 

This thread brings up a very good point. I know we can't stop determined thieves, well most of the time anyway, but it is always good to put up as many obstacles as possible. I have heard the term "kill switch" used to prevent someone from driving away with one of our old cars. Is this an effective deterrent, and if so, can anyone explain how you would set that up?

Again, sorry to hear about your Olds getting stolen.

 

A kill switch would be a deterrant but not absolute.

I would be more concerned that someone would come with a truck (as
they seem to have done in Va). So presuming that its in a driveway that
is accessible one way only - I would park to keep the drive wheels away
from the end that would be lifted - a RWD with the front out and a FWD
with the rear out.

Still not an absolute, but they would have to get it out of park OR jack up
the drive end and put dollys under, taking more time and making more
noise...

Another possibility is sink a post with an eyebolt in concrete at the
farthest end of the car. Use a heavy chain around the axel thru the
eyebolt
