Steering wheel lock plate issues
Steering wheel lock plate issues
I have a 1967 convertible cutlass that needed a signal switch replaced. Upon doing so , I now cannot get the lock plate attached to steering cover to turn and lock in place. What am I doing wrong?
There is a spring behind the plate and the plate is held in place with a wire C clip. The only way I was able to put the clip back in is to use a spacer the same inside diameter as the outside diameter of the steering shaft. Use the nut to compress the spacer down on the plate while sliding the retaining flip into the groove. Hope I explained this clearly. The CSM will probably have a better procedure.
A 1967 steering column doesn't have a "lock plate", since locking steering columns didn't appear until the 1969 model year. Perhaps a photo of what you are talking about will help us give you the correct answer.
