Which side is the alternator supposed to be on?

Which side is the alternator supposed to be on?
I have seen 70 model F85s with alternator mounted on both sides of the engine. Which side is it supposed to be on? Is it an AC thing? One one side if it has air and the other if it don't?

if it has AC then its on the drivers side, passenger side no AC
