Has anyone had ann luck with soldering a 68-72 rochester carb, im not even sure what kindof metal it is maybe an aluminum zinc or something? Im thinking about making an internal repair on the float bowl tube, the top edge has corroded away and i want to try filling it in...dont know what the melting temp of this stuff is and anyone suggest any rods? Or info?

no, don't try it! when you reach the temp. that the pot metal will accept a repair, it melts into a pile of useless pot metal. are you talking the vent tube in the air horn assembly?
j-b weld is your best friend when it comes to repairing the pot metal of a carb.

I know that this will give you more than you actually need (parts wise anyway) but I just got done rebuilding my rochester carb about 3 months ago. The rebuild kit included the tube that you are talking about and only cost $25 online.

no kit contains the power piston bore-it's an integral part of the float bowl casting.

pogo, snap a pic or two, then we can see what the damage is like.

It is good to try. But, sometimes you just have to get a replacement carb

I'd imaging the new magic AL welding rods they sell at swap meets might rebuild die cast. With some skill. Get a junker to practice on.

For a common munber, though, just get another in better shape.

Sorry, I misread. I thought that he was talking about the power piston rod which IS included in rebuild kits.

the piston plastic retainer covers all but a sliver of the bore, so i am unsure how this will affect it...i could build it up with jbweld but i dont think it would adhere long
