replacing points on a 394
replacing points on a 394
Im pretty new to distributor service, did it one time to my 63 nova with a different 6 cyl distributor and different internals, so this ones a little different.
I took off the cap/rotor which were in pretty good shape, but then I removed the points which definitely had some corrosion and transfer on em (my manual tells me how to read the metal transfer by which point received it in relation to too small or large dwell or too weak/strong condensor, but all it says for adjustment is to adjust them while its running through the little window).
Now im going to the parts store for the new points, and I can adjust em while the cars running with a dwell meter, but what should I do before the new ones go in? just slap new ones in and start it? all tips and advice are helpful!

Shoot for 0.020" gap
thickness of the matchbook cover
When running, dwell of 30 degrees +/- 2 is the spec
This is easily achieved by turning the hex tool inward [CW] until the the engine misfires, then back CCW 1/2 turn.
