Rear Ended Today
My rear bumper is bent pretty bad. The guy that hit me has insurance. I'm just hoping a replacement bumper can be found, or perhaps this one can be straightened & re-chromed? Could have been worse... but still pretty bummed out about it, after all the work I've put into her over the past couple years.

I know of a chromer that can striaghten that and rechrome it. He did my front bumper and it looks great!
Call my husband John at (530) 473-2225 and he can give you the info on the chromer.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I may need to contact him. I'm sure I won't hear from my insurance company until Tuesday with the holiday. I'm gonna talk to the body shop I usually use tomorrow & see what they have to say. I assume it's more likely they'll end up repairing the bumper instead of replacing it. It looks like the fuel filler neck got bent, too. On the bright side no body damage that I can see... no damaged lenses or chrome trim. I know it's just a car, but still upsetting... worse than when one of our "regular" cars gets damaged.

I am sooo paranoid about getting whacked in my Olds. You can be minding your own biz and Wham! There goes a lot of hard work and a classic car. Banning cell phone use while driving would be a good start.
My Vette is so small I can reach out the passenger side while sitting in the drivers seat. If I got T-boned, I would be toast. Bad thoughts go away! Sorry about your car. It looks like a real beauty!

Sorry to see your ride got damaged. Hopefully the only damage is to the bumper, and nothing else. Hate to see what that other guys car looked like!
Glad you're ok, and that's the most important thing.

Sorry to hear this. Glad it wasn't worse though, and no one got hurt. So much time work and money in these cars and people just don't pay attention anymore. I'd have to take my tire iron to somone.......

Just my opinion here, looking at the bumper you might try and remove it and using a couple of blocks of wood, a BFH and a little time.... you might be able to pound that bumper back into submission. I don't see any creases, just bowed.

Yeah, he hit me dead center on the license plate, so it is bent from the center. I was actually thinking of removing the license plate/bracket/lights, putting a short block of 2x4 behind that part of the bumper and using a tow-strap connected to some type of anchor point (tree?) to try and just lightly "bump" it back out a little... then re-adjust at the mounting brackets. I figure it couldn't hurt to try before sending the bumper out.

Trees and come-a-longs are great tools. I straightened the frame on a 64 Impala tied between 2 trees. The rear xframe and rear quarter were pushed completely under the trunk lid. Just winched it out.

Mak, that number is for Big M Auto Williams Ca, good people and very knowledgeable on classic cars. John has always been prompt at getting back if I left a message and number.....Tedd

Hmmmm, very interesting. Definitely worth a try before I send it out. Cant do anything yet, though... still waiting for dip-***** insurance adjuster to look at it.
