I was wondering if someone could tell me if the car I just bought is a real 442 or clone. The Vin # starts with 344679M335....which designates a real 442,but the Body By Fisher plate has a number ST 69 33667LAN331397,
which has me wondering which set of numbers is correct the VIN# or the body Plate number. I have a decode book but it is a little confusing as to the body style. It says the style number code 3667 is a Cutlass and the 4467 is a 442 Convertible which I have, I hope. Any information would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

 

Looks like a 442 serial # affixed to a Cutlass convertible body. Or could it be a Cutlass Convert body tag affixed to a 442 body? (Now why would anyone do that?) Either way, it is not a match. Sorry. Might want to talk to the seller....real quick.

Many legitimate 442s were built with 336xxx body data plates in 1968 and 1969. This is well documented in the Fisher Body Manuals for those years and ONLY applies to 1968 and 1969. Don't worry about it.

I'm not sure who "they" are, but "correct" is what came from the factory. 1968 and 1969 cars came from the factory both ways (with 442 body tags and with Cutlass S body tags). Both are "correct". I have seen them both ways and it may have varied by assembly factory. I also suspect that a greater percentage of 69s came with the 442 body tags.

Yes, it does, but the question was about a 1969 442.

 

Actually fisher states that. Fisher said that more 1969 Olds 442's came with the Cutlass tag versus the 442 tags. They did specify it was rare to find a correct body tag,there exact wording was it is a fluke if you can find one. Thanks

Joe is right. It is a real 442. I was nervous at first, It even hasthe numbers matching engne.Not sure how to check the transmission,which is a 4-speed. As far as my name on here,that came from when I owned a Harley Fatboy. Florida is much too dangerous to ride all the time. I sold it,and got the Olds I always wanted.. I did find out that whoever repainted my car used the wrong color. It is stamped 61,which is Sable,a dark green,but they painted it Sable brown which as also offered but that is a 65 code.They put a tan convertible top on which was not offered in 1969,needless to say it will be repainted back to what it was. The only thing that has me wondering is what the original convertible top color was. It is not stamped on the body plate. I would assume it was either white or black. The interior trim code is 934, which is gold, That is exactly what I have. Any thought on what color the top should have been? Thanks again for tall the help. This is one great website.....

By the way, the four available convertible top colors for 1969 were white, black, blue, and gold.

 

No letter after the 61. It lists the trim 934 but no top code. am not sure how to find out what is the correct color top. I found the original warranty card in the car with the correct vin# on it dated 04-13-69,but nothing to designate the top color. Any ideas? Thanks

 

I wanted to let everyone know that some,at least the Fisher De-code book I have,which is current does not list all the codes for the body tags they produced. On my tag I list a paint code of 61,which is Sable green Next to that I have a Letter B. In my book it does not have any alphebetical codes that correspond to convertible top colors. After an hour on the computer last night,I did find out that Fisher did produce body tags with alphebetical letters on them, that designate the color of your convertible . At least I know now that my car came with a black top.
