Piston ring filer
Piston ring filer
Looking at picking up a reasonable priced hand crank model. Looking for something easy to use to set the ring gap on my 357 in the next couple of weeks. Thanks in advance.
They all suck.
There's the small wheel ones with the round base and the big wheel ones with the square base. All the same junk from the same factory, buy whatever is cheapest.
My latest discovery is if you're using super thin 1mm rings with the round base filer, the ring will slip under the ring guide thingy (lots of slop in the assembly), letting the ring wobble around and totally messing up the cut. Had to disassemble and put in little spacers.
Get a diamond stone to clean up *all* edges after filing, too.
The next option is the Proform electric filer with dial gauge, but I can see where that requires some practice to get repeatable results. The Total Seal unit is the bee's knees, and they charge appropriately.
