Overhaulin Doing A '64 Full Size

I got word from a friend of mine that on the new Overhaulin season, one of the cars they'll be doing is a '64 full size Olds (88 he thinks) and they'll be running a 394 with a tri power set-up on it, he was involved with the engine build. Season starts next week.

Wow! It will be refreshing they are not doing a Cutlass/442.

I agree, they usually use a crate engine. It would be real nice to see a classic engine being used, especially a rocket.

I just watched an episode last week on a 68 442, the actually rebuilt the Olds 400 and put it back in! I did my Fred Sanford imitation "this is the big one"

Now that I want to see Chip Foose has some serious talent and a 394 can be built to haul some serious mail

I'm pretty sure that 1968 442 was done around 6/7 years ago. As I recall it ended bad. Engine failure & they billed them a lot of $$ for the buildup. Ken

Yeah- I can see that crowd encountering a 394 with a Slim Jim backing it. It'll be gone so quick it'll look like a magic show. Then the fun starts- watching them try to engineer a later transmission into an early-60s big Olds.

Ross racing does a whole bunch for the 394. Also they do a T-400 complete. a bolt in, some say a little pricey, but it is a complete trans, ready to go. Seams all you do is your own drive shaft.

We all know that, but getting yer product on that show = $$$$$ and being a niche market, I'm not sure RRE will play in that league. Maybe if they donate a trans and an install the Overhaulin' crowd will work with them.

Though I gotta admit the prospect of a 394 Olds and a modern trans might turn some of these no-imagination crate engine freaks into guys who can appreciate old-school engine swaps.

The '64 Dynamic 88 will be on next Tues, Velocity channel. The '64 Fury build, the same guy that built that 383, Robert, who is also working on my 400 which is in that same shop, is also my bro in law.

I have been seeing the ads for this one, and I am curious as to how "custom" it will end up. I just prefer them stock, with a little underhood tweaking.

Cat, you're proof that a neat street cruiser can be built without resorting to a crate engine swap. We'll see if Foose can pull it off.

It'll still shock me if that 64 doesn't end up with some kind of Chevy-derivative engine in it. 'Course if the owner's happy with that...

I know I could never be.

OK, my take on the build as I just watched it, they went through the 394, adding a tri power. They also went through the original trans. Body and interior looked good BUT, they missed it with the rims and the track, it looks too narrow to me, anyone else see it?

Did anyone catch the episode? I looked all up and down my DirecTV schedule and although the velocity website said it was on channel 281 in this zipcode, there was something else showing in that channel's 9PM timeslot.

I'm recording it tonight. I thought the 64 Fury was tasteful, I would of thought they would have gotten a bit more HP out of the 383. I always wondered how one would get a car on that show and who pays the bill?

I'm not a fan of Foose wheels either.

A nice build, the wheels did nothing for me, but was glad to see them retain the 394, overall not too bad.

I liked the build but also did not like the wheels and the stance of the car. I would really like to know where the got the front and rear disc brake conversion from Bear brakes that fit the original spindles.

Well I was somewhat disapponted after watching it. Didn't like the wheels. They didn't even start it, whats with that. Seemed like they weren't too forthcoming with the build info.

I was disappointed they didn't start it too. I suppose it was because one of the "insiders" just rebuilt it. So it wasn't new, and no sponsor could get the advertising. It is the nature of shows like that. Some Foose wheels I like some I don't, the ones he put on this car didn't appeal to me. Overall, I thought the car turned out nice. I certainly would have no trouble driving it.

I would like to know how it drives with the slim jim tranny. They are very touchy and with the 3 duces to get it right would have been tough.

They showed the engine on a stand with an MSD Dist plugged in the hole.....and there is no such animal made for these engines (1949-64) or I wouldnt have to build them from scratch.......and what I saw was a grungy rocker assembly when the cover was off........my Idea of a proffesionally rebuilt engine must differ from some.

WOW....I never saw this car until now. Not too bad, not radical at all! I must say, seeing the pics before the car was started, looked pretty sharp as it was....I also liked the IROC looking wheels on it.

I know If Mr Foose and his Team of Artists pinched my car and had it reappear I there is NO Way it would end up on Ebay. If the owner was to pay for that rebuild it would be in the 6 figures, to realize what on Evilbay ?30k maybe ? Total insult especially when there are thousands of car owners who would cough up their left nut for the privilege.
I know its his car and he can do what he wants but geez let the paint dry first.
Just my 2 cents
