Oldsmobile Gold Paint ??

My intake manifold is cracked, but I found a "new" one. It is not the Oldsmobile gold color I have come to know and love. If it fits (and I think it will..stay tuned) I need to paint it. Any idea what that color is called and where I might find it? I'm guessing it needs to be a special paint to handle the extreme under hood conditions. Ideas?

Most of your restoration houses have the correct paint for the engine such as Fusick for example.I did the valve covers on my 71 Supreme project car with Duplicolor gold engine enamel and it is a pretty close match in my opinion for alot less money! I bought it at Advance Auto!

Fusicks has it for 16.50 a can. Big $$$. I've used something else on my car that's pretty close and Heat resistant. It's called VHT (very high temperature) gold caliper paint. Can says its rated for 900 degrees F. Its not an exact match, but for the girl I hang with, its a done deal. Costs a lot less too.

I might just do the VCs and water pump to match.

Supercars Unlimited carries it too. But if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, then the Dupli-color gold is your choice. I agree, it's very close. For the heat crossover on the intake, you can spray some hi temp primer on that area and then top coat it with gold.

No matter what you do, it'll burn off eventually. I blocked the crossover (not the conventional way so it's still legal for Pure Stock competition) on my W-31 intake and also coated the underside with a hi temp paint. 3 years later, it still burned off on the cross over on the intake.

POR 15 makes a kit that has everything you need to paint the engine in Olds gold (which is what I used.)

Willidog has a good point. POR 15 is a very durable paint and they have a close match for Oldsmobile gold. However, if you are just painting the intake manifold you could save a few bucks by purchasing the Duplicolor paint.

If you're looking for the "classic" (bronze) engine paint, it's just not available anywhere! A couple fairly close matches have already been addressed. Another suggestion: go to www.ultra-high-compression.com, click on the forum. There are a couple discussions regarding closer matches, one being (I think) a Mitsubishi engine color.

Is he a member of CO?

Know what you mean about shipping. Even with UPS or Fedex it's really pricey. 2 exhaust manifolds would weigh pretty close to an intake...and if you've ever cross border shopped, all of a sudden the domestic rates don't look all that bad.

But you're right. If you specified the intake and he shipped exhaust I would think that his mistake shouldn't be your misfortune. If it was me who was in error, I'd be:
1. Apologizing
2. Sending the new manifold (my cost)
3. Either let you keep the exhaust manifolds, or paying their way back to me.
4. If I misunderstood the part you wanted and didn't have an intake, I'd refund your total purchase....but that's me.

Hope everything works out for you. Only thing I can really suggest is that you stay calm and let him know what the problem is. Identifiy what you want to make this right and see what he has to say. But don't start off with a negative, it puts people on the defensive.

BTW, which style of manifold are you looking for BBO or SBO? 2bbl or 4bbl. There's probably guys (like John 2blu442 in Oregon) who have what you want. If you need a 2bbl for a 350, I've got one off my 72.

I've heard him before, nothing bad.

If you do a search here some threads come up with his name.

How did your call to Bob Anderson work out? From what you posted, it sounds like he doesn't have the intake you are looking for.
