oldsmobile gold engine paint...
oldsmobile gold engine paint...
i have been looking high and low, and the more i read the more i get confussed (which happens alot..lol). which engine paint is closer, when i get ready to do my engine work i want it to be close as it gets, so tell me out of all the engine paints out, which one you ended up putting on your block and if you where pleased with. posted pictures if you have them!
You can get Olds gold from POR, Eastwoods, Fusick, Parts Place etc. Or you can go with Duplicolor or VHT high heat paint. Bottom line is you need to be ok with what you're putting on. I used Duplicolor high heat gold and I think it turned out just fine. When I redo the engine, I will probably use POR Olds Gold so I can shoot it from a spray gun. I think it's the best value for the money too. My engine's not perfect, but it looks like this now.
I chose POR15. I brush painted the block and had a friend spray the valve covers.
Seems a bit more rich and deep gold when brushed. It is closer to stock when thinned and sprayed.
Came out nice I think...

HOWEVER, it does not stand up well to the super high-heat areas around the exhaust ports and choke stove - it discolors.
Here is after a 200 mile trip:

. You have your choice of protection from MAW. Rob's pointy metal thingy or B.E.E.R. I know where the smart money is..
Nope, gold is just right. Now you might as well pull that engine and do it over in the right color

Teepo's engine is Bill Hirsch Gold. I really like it. Not too bright, not too dull!

I really like the way it turned out as well. Looks like a great big gold nugget!

I need a plexiglass hood now so I can show it off more...

Hood stays open all the time while parked in the garage!
No worries, I think just about everyone who sees his car thinks the same thought about how nice the engine looks.
Another product you can try is VHT Gold. It looks the same color as POR Olds gold and is about 9 bucks a can. Gets good coverage too. Bonus? Don't have to worry about brush marks and it dries really fast ( about 5-10 minutes)
You can get it at most auto parts places http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/engineenamel/
