Olds W-43 in new Car Craft

Just got my new Car Craft magazine. On the last page, there's an article on the W-43 Olds Hemi. They pulled this photo from their archives, but they (Car Craft) said they don't know what it is! They're asking for help identifying it. Why they didn't do a web search, I don't know, but maybe they're just trying to get people to write in. The magazine business is just about down the drain so I guess they're looking for attention.

Anyway they mentioned that Ford and Chrysler had made SOHC and DOHC engines in the mid 60's (SOHC 427 Ford and 426 Hemi DOHC), and they mentioned Ford supercharged in the 1950's, Chevrolet and Oldsmobile turbocharged in the early 60's, but they had never seen this Olds powerplant. I think that's odd considering they have the entire Car Craft archives at their fingertips, and (I think) web access.

Anyway I just wanted to post the photo they used. And if you want to write into Car Craft to let them know what this engine is, feel free to contact them!

I did that as soon as I saw the photo. These newbies at CC apparently don't realize that the May 1971 issue of Hot Rod had a complete article on that engine. In fact, that's where those photos came from.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to understand their lack of knowledge. Those photos have been around for a long time and knowledge of that engine is common among us Oldsmobile aficionados.
