Times and products may have changed but a number of years ago I saw a display with a Wix filter and a Fram filter cut open. Since then I have used nothing but Wix. I understand NAPA Gold is the same as Wix.

I have cut open a WIX after @ 1500 miles and I was amazed how heavy it was and how dirty the filter was. A year later I used a fram ('cause I couldn't find a WIX) Same oil, same mileage and driving practices and when I cut it open I noticed the filter had collapsed in some areas and the degree of 'dirt' was much less. Now this is very unscientific and there are many variables but the drastic difference gave me great cause and I just wont use anything but WIX. This topic (along with types of oils) is always a big discussion point on this site, but The engine seems to run cleaner and the oil seems to holds its properties better. I have studied the engines and been given volumes of advice about the olds engine..its faults and positives...so I am sticking with WIX

You might want to check the Advance Auto site, as they're currently running a pretty good Penzzoil Ultimate synthetic oil special. 5 quart jug of the Pennzoil oil, and K&N filter for $20 bucks, with mail in gift card.

I used to use AC exclusively, but the production must have shifted off shore because quality has gone downhill. Where the top plate (with the gasket and threads) used to be a heavy formed part, it is now a thin stamped sheet metal part. I have switched to NAPA Gold exclusively for the past three or four years because of this. I too have been unimpressed with Fram. Both their air and oil filters seem to have less filtering media than higher quality options.

Stay away from AC-Delco filters. About 5 years ago, they shifted production to China (along with nearly every other Delco product, like brake parts, batteries). The AC filters are of the E-Core design now.

I've used NAPA Gold filters for the past 5 years now.

Great info here.

Napa gold which is made by Wix.

From what I can tell through research on the net,Wix is the best on the market.

I have used Fram and AC over the years, no issues but AC has been hard to get around here.
Due to some of the posts here I have switched to Puralator which has been decent to find and pricing has been good also.

i have seen the inside of more then a few fram filters and sadly they sometimes have the equivalent of ruff and ready s--t paper! It is a dam shame that they have gone downhill . I use k and n filters for my big block only.

I use Wix after reading many many articles on the "best" oil filter to use. Fram seems to have a lot of strikes against it.

I use Wix but suspect any would be fine with the frequency of oil changes I do. I'll bet most everyone on here is pretty much the same on not waiting too long.

I use Mahle filters, just because they're good and easily available in my part of the world

Before anyone pays for filters to cut them up there are a lot of videos showing the differences. The first one might be represented a little exaggerated

I cut open a brand new wix and a brand new fram about 2 years ago after reading a thread on here about fram filters. I now only use wix filters on my olds and factory honda filters on our daily drivers.

Those are both pretty impressive videos.

I've been avoiding Fram for a few years, but I'll admit I used a couple on "non-critical" vehicles because I had them lying around.
After seeing that Fram filter with the poorly crimped seam that would have just let dirty oil flow straight into the clean side, I'm sure I'll never use another. Even if that guy had to cut open ten filters to find one with that flaw (and why would he?), those are still some pretty bad odds.

I use WIx/Napa Gold. Go to YouTube & search Fram sucks. You will get plenty of hits. Ages ago I had a Fram on a 3800 Series GM V6. When I took it off I looked inside & you could see the filter element all twisted up.

Wix 51258 or CARQUEST 85258 (same thing). I found some on line for under $5 each.

I've switched to WIX after seeing the AC Delco filters go downhill. I prefer buying WIX over the equivalent NAPA Gold because the WIX are white, just like the original filters in 1970.

I have no desire to ever try Fram. A friend with an 7-second drag car found his System One wouldn't fit after installing a new engine and transmission before his first time out in the Spring. So in a pinch he put on a Fram. He never made it out of the burn-out box. The Fram filter collapsed and he starved a bearing.
