Now I need to get the front on and install the gas tank and new lines and rebuild the carb. Just got my kit from Daytona Parts.
The only thing I might actually pay for is a new headliner as I really suck at it.

Wow, Peter! What a transformation, looking great! Let us know how the Daytona float valve works for you; I've heard both good and bad critiques about it.

 

It really is a great difference. Gives me good hope for my wagon. Very much along the same lines. It's even white. I am looking forward to spring. I can start picking at it. Great job.

 

Great lesson for so many of us. You don't need millions. Just need passion and drive.

what will you do at this point to keep the surface rust from coming back? Will wax do it?

 

Good question KRJ...not really sure. I think the WD40 has left a good film that will last awhile...but waxing might help.
I just plan on keeping it out of the elements for now.

Rebuilding the carb now with a kid from daytona. Fun times!
All parts are clean and assembly has begun.

Got it all bolted back together and could not believe how easily it fired up.
Cranked on it for about 10 seconds to get some fuel in the bowls and then hit the pedal once. Varooom!!!
It idled smoothly, decent response.

I've never rebuilt a carb and I have to say it was very rewarding.

the WD 40 evaporates and will eventually let the surface rust come back.
I am impressed with the outcome and I know it’s just a for now thing to make it look better. I’m not sure what to use at this point. Perhaps more of the same every now and then.

If you can rebuild a four jet, you can rebuild any carb! Lot’s of small parts. Good job.

 

Just a few progress pics.
Wire wheeled the floorboards, threw on a little POR-15, threw in some thermal barrier I had laying around.
Picked up some sill plates at Carlisle and added the rug I score for 80 bucks.
Not too shabby.

Makes me feel like I can get my wagon cleaned up and looking good. Sorry fellas it's an Oldsmobile cousin. It's a Buick. 70k miles. Never been in an accident. I do have all the trim etc.

Got the headliner done, new dual reservoir master, brake lines and wheel cylinders. Still needs some tweaks but it was good enough for a maiden voyage on Saturday. Still in love with it!

TJ, the wheel definitely needs some work. But the cracks aren't too big. It will do!

Also forgot to post some of the other stuff I needed to do to get it on the road.
• I sprang for a brake upgrade, Master/booster, new lines and wheels cylinders.
• Put in new fuel lines. Also had to rehab the tank. Took forever to clean out, degrease and coat, but I guess it was worth it.

I actually like the look of the steering wheel, from your pics it looks two tone to me. Didn’t notice any cracks.

Absolutely great job on the entire refresh. What did you use to refinish the outside of the gas tank?
