Need help with 1972 Cutlass Trunk Script Mounting Holes

Does anybody have the hole layout for the OLDSMOBILE trunk script!
I have seen it posted on here before, but i can't seem to find the thread
in search mode Somebody measured out each hole from left to right.
Any help on finding this thread would be greatly appreciated

It actually didn't take me long to find it. I did remember seeing it when you originally posted it. There is a lot of info like this (great stuff too BTW) that you'd swear would be better served by sticky's, but the site search engine works well too.

I just took all the letters off a 71 CS in the bone yard. Got all the barrel clips with them too. Never even thought about taking a picture of it.... The letters will be going onto a display for my car when it goes to a show. Thought it would be cool to have some OEM stuff glued to the promo board.

Run a test template, those dimensions did not work for me. I found a scrap lid and made my template from that.

Templates are excellent tools and easy to make out of thin stiff cardboard.

@woodie582 - where did the measurements go wrong? Maybe give Larry a PM and tell him so he can verify or correct his post?

Been a few months, but as I recall some of the letters were to high. I am just about ready to start back on that issue. I want to compare the op's lay-out with the lid I have.

I would like to know. One thing I can see if we don't measure the same way there will be differences. I don't know if the different trunk lids would be different measurements.

70-72 Cutlass Supreme convertibles (model 4267) deck lids are all the same: Group 12.081 part number 9852222

Cutlass Supreme Coupes (model 4257) share the same deck lid from 70-72 also, but are not the same lid as verts. Group 12.081 part number 9877968

Only way I could see a problem with measuring is either the wrong deck lid used, or different reference values. I'm sure you guys will find out what's up and get back to the OP with updated information. nuff of me stirring the pot.

My bodyman went to lay out the letters and they were also off using this template and i am not saying that the template is wrong.Distance from edge on first and last letter were off about an 1" of each other.Letters on either side of Keyhole were also off,and some other spacings also.He said he researched alot of deck lid pictures online and from what he seen, they also looked off.So he started thinking that they were all drilled wrong from the Fisher Body plant. So he asked me if i wanted it the right way(his layout) or the wrong way(Oldsmobiles layout).Your guess is as good as mine on this one.

Whats the difference between the Decklids Allan?? I'm curious on that 1.

Check with your bodyman again. Start with spacing the letters AWAY from the keyhole. There are 5 letters on each side and they should be equidistant apart going each way. If he just lined them up from one side, it would look wrong.

re: trunk decks? I suspect it has something to do with the overall length of the deck lid. I know I compared my Cutlass S to another members CS vert and the length of the lid and distance to the curved slope were different.

Here's the comparison and some pics of the lettering supplied by eightupman.
