Mystery red
Mystery red
Hi all, I was wondering what was the color code of my original bright red.
my car is a 1969 cutlass S red on red originally.
I've looked at all the paint code charts for 1969 oldsmobile and all they show is 52 crimson which is a darker red, for any red at all, but I know that's not my color and I see lots of other 69s in that same bright shade of red. What gives?

Look on the body data plate underhood at the PNT field and see what the original color code is. We can go from there.
If there's a - - in that field it could be a special paint order, but more likely it's been subjected to a resale red paint job sometime in the last 54 years.

Paint chips and "formulas" that each paint manufacturer use, quite frankly, suck.
I rubbed it out and scan matched the underside of my rear deck lid which was the only original paint left on the car. 68 Scarlet is a different shade of red from 69 Crimson though

I had fist thought about black. You don't see many in black.
