My little project for the day

Installed new Oldsmobile letters from year one on the trunk lid. The second owner had the car repainted and they removed the letters and filled the holes. Luckily for me you could pick up on the original holes if you looked real close which made putting these in a lot easier.

I think the letters compliment the rear of the car very well!

Thank you! I've been on the lookout for a nice 1965 NC plate to replace the twisted regular plate in the pics.

Looks great, lucky thing you had the old holes(albeit not completely) to guide you.

i would like to do my rear panel like yours, as my original piece is all pitted and probably the worst looking part of my car, it aggrivates me. i was thinking of pulling that rear panel right off, smoothing our that rear deck lid area and just paint it the same color of the car, then add a rocket eblem and a new cutlass emblem to matck the front fender emblems. that way i would just have the two tail lights with blue in between. i would like to get some new letters for the trunk as well, i didn't think i could get them as i couldn't locate them in my year one catalog, i might have missed them though. nice looking car man, i like the color and the rear deck lid...

Thanks for the compliments guys, it means a whole lot more coming from peers than the average Ford guy at the gas station asking me if it's a GTX.

From what I've read the guy who was producing these letters quit making them several years ago. These were bought back in 05'-06', but were never installed. I got a whole pile of extra parts with this car. A 4spd F-85 dash, a complete straight grille/headlamp rings, 2 sets of eyebrow trim (1 new set, 1 re-chromed), a couple of steering wheels complete with cracks and center caps, the stock hub caps, and more goodies that I can't think of right now.

Doh, I sure don't. I did look through the parts looking for some since my front lenses are starting to get little cracks in them. Are they being reproduced?

Nice rag top BTW!

If you need a license plate, try http://www.licenseplates.tv/ . Had one made for my car. Can't tell it from an original. They make any state, year, county or parish.

thank you much!!! no, i don't believe they are reproducing those housings....u can get the lenses and the bulbs, but not the actual housings. the problem i have is the sockets inside the housing are so corroted and the springs that are supposed to keep the bulb tight are basically disinegrated, or rusted very badly. i cannot get a bulb to receive power, or to fit securely in the socket. i have power at the wire behind the housings, but no in the housings themselves. so i currently do not have operational front turn signals or reverse lights...luckily i can still get an inspection sticker at a local shop that loves my car:-)

Speaking of NC plates, what does NC allow and charge when it comes to registering older plates (or plate). I haven't contacted DMV here yet since my '72 is still in VA and was "registered for life" about 10 years ago with '72 plates for something like $11 .

They do not allow you to re-register an older plate here, but they will allow on a vehicle 35 years or older to display an older plate where a valid plate should be as long as the valid plate is inside the vehicle and accessible if needed or requested by an officer. I have never known anyone to ever have a problem with police on this issue. In fact I run a 78 plate on my 78 Malibu which is not 35 years old yet and I have never had an issue either.

It will cost roughly $80 to send off for a NC title and get a new valid plate for the car. They do have antique vehicle plates, but they are just as ugly as a regular plate IMO. Hopefully since you already own the car they will not hit you for the classic car transfer tax (around $90). This is some new B.S. tax that they have come up with, cause apparently they just don't get enough taxes from us at the gas pumps.

Oh and at 35 years and older, no more state safety inspection!
