Nice day for a project start

Well, it was sunny, warm, and seemed like a good day to get started rehabbing one of the '67s. My son came over and we dug in. First thing: get the engine out.
Next week we'll get the body off the chassis.
I love Springtime!

Nice work. How long did it take to get the engine out? And in the fourth picture is that a giant rock behind the car and shed?

Took a little longer than expected. Problem was most my tools are elsewhere. And then forgot a couple of key things: The chain to lift it out (project interruption #1) then not having bolts long enough to secure the engine to the stand (interruption #2). all told, about 4 hours. That's from engine off to engine in stand. Was expecting to get it done in 2. That's the way it goes.

Yes, that is a rock. Kept me from putting the shed where I wanted it. I hate it. You want it?

Ya, I'm getting old. I had one back in '72. I must be trying to relive my young irresponsible days!

But the time with my son is priceless. That's why I have 2 of these. I figure I can keep him around for a few years! BTW, he turns 21 next Saturday. Then we can celebrate our accomplishments with a beer!

Nice. My oldest son and I just finished
a 98 Chev shortbed project.
Had a good time doing it. Enjoy,
looks like a fun one.

My son just turned 45 and we still do father and son projects. Latest is a 67 F85 two door post, 425 and four speed when finished.

Nice project! Hope to be able to do that someday with my son, when he is old enough.

I have wonderful memories of doing the drivetrain and paint on my F-85 with my son during his high school years. Of course, that earned him the privilege to take it to school on sunny days!

My dad taught me a lot about cars growing up and I think back on some of those memories. My dad was a mechanic, and my grandfather owned a gas station. As I got older and really took an interest in cars, he was afraid that I would take on mechanics as a career and he would not help in my endeavers to fix up my cars in my teens. Later on in life he started to take an interest in my projects until he passed away.

This car was bought as a father n son project but my son really did not have the interest or desire to take the time nor put the effort in to take ownership. I thought it would be cool for his first car to be the same as my first car. Now he drives a 2006 Mustang and is very happy in it and I continue to toy with the Cutlass. Maybe when he gets older he'll take an interest, no use pushing him.

Memories

Tedd, great pic of you and your dad.
Got me thinking, where is that old pic?
I found it. Myself and my oldest son with
the 66 442 in 1983.

Great pictures, Ted and tru-blue. It makes me think of the very first Olds my Dad brought home. It was 1961. Dad liked to party. Every Christmas we got a new car because he totaled the old one on the way home from the company Christmas party. That year the 55 Packard Clipper Constellation succumbed. He came home with a 58 Olds 88. What a load of chrome that thing was!
I gotta say I love the stories, the info shared, and the companionship here!
Let's keep it going.
