my 7040250 carburetor troubles are almost over

as some of you may know from some of my rants over this, it has been a long road trying to get a carburetor for my Rallye 350. well now my carb should be here in another week or so. Greg from Sparky's called yesterday and said it will be done soon. i can't believe i am excited over a carburetor but after the long road of getting one i will be glad to be done with it. with all the cores i bought that were junk, the new heli coil for the inlet threads, the rebuild and all the shipping of all the carburetors i will have spent $725 for a stinking carburetor that i am told is an easy one to find. i even found a 69 W-31 and 70 W-30 4 speed carb before i found this one. i was tired of all the mess so i called Ron Memmer and ask if he could send one to Sparky's and let him examine it and he agreed. if it wasn't any good he was willing to take it back and send another one to him. when he agreed to do that it was a done deal. i should have called Ron first about 5 years ago.

Wow. I'm impressed. When I rebuilt my carburetor, I was attempt to fix only three problems. You've got over 7 million!

Olds parts guy. Has lots of NOS and good used parts. Be prepared to empty your wallet and then some if you want something. Good place to go if you are rich or desperate.

Ron Memmer is his name rons classic cutlass is what his busness is called. if he don't have it or can't get it you will be lucky to ever get one. he is an honest seller that does this full time as his income. he gets a premium for his parts but he does back them up.

He was nearly impossible to get a hold of in the past - has he embraced the cell phone and email yet?

I have found him expensive as well but extremely honest and has a collection of incredible parts. I've bought from him before (only occasionally cause I'm not big on NOS - or pricey)

At Lansing a few years back I saw a guy ask him the price of center caps on what I take was a rarer set of 80's 442 rims. The guy said "heck the guy a few tents over is selling the rims for that much" Ron replied - "if they are the rims you say they are go get em cause I'm selling a set for three times that much." Ron then showed the guy his rims to make sure they were the same - guy ran to buy the rims and bought the center caps from Ron - I thought that was great of Ron to admit they were a deal.

An he is knowledgeable

For the record AutoZone or Advance sells carbs for our cars. I was ready to buy one but my rebuild went smoothly so I didn't have to. Think they cost like $180

the one on my car now is from auto zone. it works somewhat but it is not right. the accelerator pump don't pump like it should and the float is not right because it runs out of fuel on a hard run. had other problems as well. with Sparky's, you give him the engine specs, vacuum readings and a correct core for your engine and he will build you a carb that is right everywhere.
