Carburetor Troubles
Carburetor Troubles
Thought I made a thread a while back, but after an hour of searching I can't find it.
I have a 72 Cutlas 350 motor, th350 trans, Edelbrock 1406 carb, and performer RPM intake. Like that when I bought it. I'm assuming the motor has been rebuilt to OEM specs, I wouldn't think anything more. 3.33 gears in the rear. Since I bought it if I drove around for a while and shut it off, I could start it up within 5 mins, no problem, after that It'd have to hold the gas or crank it over a little.
When I bought the car, if I was cruising around town at 30mph on the dot and nailed it, car would nail second hard and the tires would break loose. Lately it's been sluggish. It'll bog once and a blue moon(for a half of a second) and go.
Car doesn't have the pickup it used to, even if it doesn't bog. Called Edelbrock tech line and they told me they don't reccoment the 1406 carb and the Performer RPM intake, and that's my problem. Tried to explain it once ran fine, guy told me it's impossible.
Long story short, I'm really not sure what to do besides buy a new carb. I took the air cleaner off and used some carb cleaner to clean out and around the carb, to no real avail. Threw a can of gummout fuel cleaner in the tank(1/4 to a full 12oz bottle). Ran most of that out before refilling. Fuel filter is 2 weeks old.
What do I check/Do?

Why won't the performer carb work??? It says you can use it on the spec's.
I would double check your tune. I've found that most performance problems can be directly related to tune and not the carb. Something has changed.
