Paint colors
Anybody know what color the air cleaner, engine and transmission in my 59 Super 88 should be? I can see two coats of a metallic blue on it but that's mostly gone.
Also, the firewall is painted bronze, the original color of the car. I plan to paint it red and white as some originals were. I assume that means a white firewall. Is that correct?

The stock air cleaner color would be black and I am pretty sure the main firewall should be black as well with a little overspray near the top of body color.
Engine color is a blue green color from factory...sorta aqua while the trans would be not painted but natural color.

Numbers
Thanks everyone. My car definitely was originally a bronze color and that's what color the firewall is. But I have more info now.
The motor is now out of it and I have access to everything. The number on the top of the bell housing is 574534-4 1/8. The number on the right head is D123753. No similar numbers on the left head (are they interchangeable? They look alike.). Both heads have a large 18 above the center exhaust port. It has two coats of blue paint. I think it's a 394 because that's what the PO told me. Is it and is it from a 1959 394 ??

The firewall could have been painted body color.....as I said i am not sure. The Super88 had the same 394 as the 98. Only the Dynamic had the 371. Heads can go on either side of the engine. 371 heads have different letters. The GM shop manual will let you decode the head numbers and letters. They are a great tool. May even tell you firewall paint color. You can often find shop manuals on ebay.
