Looking for a 69-72 cutlass in MN! <10000 no supremes!

Hi, I am 15 and am new to the forum. As long as I remember i loved muscle cars, and I have always loved oldsmobile! My favorite car has been the 70 or 72 cutlass s. Of course, given the option I would get a 442 but thats probably not happening. If anybody knows of a cutlass that is NOT A SUPREME, let me know. A few specifications though is that it would have to be driver quality, minimal rust, and be under $10,000. It is going to be tricky to find one especially in Minnesota but, I thought that I might as well try here. Also, it could be within 200 miles or so of minneapolis. Thanks for reading and if you know of anything, let me know! GO OLDS OR GO HOME!

Thanks!

Thanks for showing me all the cars guys! I did actually go and take a look at the 72 442. A few owners ago they put in the 403 and new wheels. They didnt know what they were doing. The people now are trying to sell it as a 442 even though I tried hard to explain that it was a cutlass s with the w29 442 appearance and handling package! Also, on the test drive, (i wasnt driving) we go rearended! The cutlass was fine, just needs a taillight replaced while the lady who hit us, her car has frane damage. She hit us hard too! No brakes! Just accelerating till she hit us. She blamed it on us as she hit us as the light turned green! She said "when the light turns green you go" while I was thinking "so what if the light just turned green, we havent gone yet, doesnt mean you get to!" I was still interested in the car, but they havent lowered the price at all it looks like.

This shouldn't be difficult. If it's not a 442, and it's not a convertible, and it's not mint condition, then it better not cost more than $10k!! I bet you can find a good one for under $5k if you're willing to accept a little rust.

Young'un, I like you already!

I know at 15 traveling for a car might be hard to do, but my recommendation is find the most rust-free example you can find- and in the Upper Midwest that won't be easy.

Talk with these folks http://www.mnoldsclub.info/ A lot of them are here on CO and if there's a good reasonably priced 69-72 S around they'll know about it. Someone might even have one.

Obviously not a real 442. None of the 442s came with rocker stainless trim. 1972 VIN will not designate 442, just the model. First year for that change. You're right that 72 will not have 442 on the glove box. 1972 442s could be ordered with any of the available v8s which is sad.

That 71 Cutlass S is highly customized. Easy fix for anyone. The biggest flaw though is changing the dash pad to white. That will create a lot of glare and reflection on the windscreen.

Which trim are you referring to, the middle of the door or at the bottom? Thanks for the info, I'm still learning the minute details.

When you go to the link there is a "contact" button along the page header. Click that and scroll to the bottom of the list of club officers to the Chapter Representative. Then click on one of the names and you will get an email page. Just drop them a note explaining what you are looking for and see what they have to say. Hope that helps

Yeah, thanks. I am probably going to become a member and put an ad in the newsletter. That should work.

Keegan? You pulling my leg?? Rocker stainless is like what you have along the bottom of your CS. That long bottom piece - was part of a delete package with the 72 W29 and W30 cars.

The trim you are referring to, is that the kind that goes from wheel well to wheel well? Just one solid line all the way across?

Rocker stainless is one solid piece that goes along the bottom of the car and covers the rocker panel (hence the name rocker stainless). Here's a pic of a 72 Cutlass S with body side moldings and the standard rocker moldings for that model year.
