Jet-Hot questions

Im looking for info on where to get a pair of exhaust manifolds jet hot coated.
Has anyone else done this, and how does it hold up? Im told that after its coated, it has to be cured by baking from 100-800* cycle's several times or it wont stick. Anyone know about how its done or how well it works out?

Exclamation

I used HPC to coat a set of W and Z manifolds, and an aluminum O4B intake.

The parts have been on the car for about 9 years, and have dyno time too.

They look EXACTLY like the day I put them on.

There is no paint that will match the durability.

I just saw a set of Jet-Hot coated headers at a local car show. They were seven years old and looked fairly new. I've enclosed a pic of them.

What is HPC?

Any leads on a good place for Jet Hot? And will they do cast?

I have Jet-Hotted long tubes on my 455, and still look like the day I put them on. Bought them new from Summit Racing that way, and they basically sent them to Jet-Hot, and Jet-Hot sent them to me. Actually have a Jet-Hot catalog, and yes they'll do cast iron exhaust manifolds, aluminum intakes, ext. Good stuff, as actually a bit soft, and takes some banging around. They do warn of a proper carb air/fuel ratio, as if running to lean(overly hot), could damage it. Never had any problems with mine.

There's also one in here about an hour outside of Philly.

Personally, I wouldn't use them. Yes they shine and stuff, but I've heard nothing but bad things about them and their coatings dont last.

I perfer powder coating. I'm a good customer at a place in Warminster, PA (about 20 minutes from Philly) www.boneheadperformance.com and my Alero manifold is on their website.

under "Automotive coating" photo gallery, first pic in the 4th row

I had HPC coat my W Z's years ago, and they looked perfect when I took them off. Apparently HPC is now Jet-Hot.

Warminster is a little over an hour from me. I deal with another buisness in the same town. Their website says $160 for ceramic coating on a pair of V8 exhaust manifolds. Doesnt sound to bad to me, especially if I can bring them there and pick them up.

As mentioned Ive had good luck with Jet-Hot. I did't realize there is a powder coating material avialible to withstand the heat of exhaust systems. Another place mentioned by a guy on the Corvette forum is Swain Tech Coatings. If you check out their web site they show coating the combustion chambers of cyliner heads and piston tops.

I just did some research, looks like ceramic coating come in a powder coating as well, so if you have access to a powder coating system you can do it yourself.

I had a local shop ceramic coat some SBC manifolds a few years back.
Was very happy, One bit of warning if you do any grinding be sure to smooth them as all deep sanding marks still showed.
Not sure I'll ever smooth cast iron again. What a pain.
