ignition lock cylinder

ignition lock cylinder

Easiest way to remove without no damage.
Reason for removing key stuck in ignition won't go foward nor will it go back it's basically stuck on acc need help plz.

Year and model?

I assume this is a car with the lock cylinder on the column? Are you sure the problem isn't simply that the steering wheel is turned and the lock pin is binding? Have you tried jacking the front wheels off the ground to release pressure on the linkage? How about the shift linkage from the column to the trans? Try temporarily disconnecting it at the firewall then push all the way up on the arm that comes out of the base of the column. Rarely does the lock cylinder itself go bad.

If you DO want to pull the lock cylinder, here are the instructions.
That website covers more that just lock cylinder removal, so stop there.

Thanx for quick reply got plenty of turn w/wheel actually steering i don't believe has locked since I've owned it by the way 77 Oldsmobile Cutlass supreme regular column

OK, if it isn't binding linkage then the only other things to check is the rod from the ignition switch to the lock cylinder and the rack that the cylinder drives. Sometimes the rack or drive gear break.

So far ur my best hope took ignition switch off and that rod along with key same results small chance it could b in the column were that rod starts at ignition cylinder?

Dumb question, but you're sure you're using the right key, right?

Most of us have "several" and they all look the same.
