Hello everyone,

I am working on tearing down a 455 (1968 I believe) for parts / rebuild and I found this part that I cannot seem to identify or find any information on. It was mounted on the intake, just in front of the throttle linkage on the carburetor (2 barrel). The throttle are would rest on this "button" when at idle it seams. The button can move in and out of the disc section, which seems to contain a diaphragm. But there are no connections, electrical or vacuum to this piece.

Used on the slow idle side of the circuit referred to as the dashpot. Should be readily available at your normal automotive parts supply stores.

Here's another link; but I think you have enough information to perform additional research. If you own the CSM you should see images of the dashpot and a small section on how to adjust it.

I believe this part is called a anti dieseling valve. it dropped the idle down to prevent the engine from running on after turning the key off. However they usually have a electric connector or vacuum port ?

 

Nope. It is not electric. It is called a dashpot and all it does is dampen the throttle closing if you lift off the gas quickly to ensure the engine doesn't stall.
