Dashpot adjustment 72 olds 350 bbl

Hi! I'm confused. The attached instruction from the CSM states .060" clearance between dashpot and throttle lever with dashpot fully compressed. So does this mean that I compress it with a feeler gauge, adjust it to .060" gap and then release it against the throttle lever? Am i understanding that when I release it it will
oncr again be touching the throttle lever? Thank you.

Yes, it will be touching the throttle, but shouldn't have enough strength to actually push it open.

All the dashpot does is slow the closing of the throttle if you quickly take your foot off the gas. Not particularly necessary, but an often missing part for a high-point build.

The adjustment is to keep the throttle from riding on the dashpot bottomed out. You depress the dashpot all the way back and then adjust the .060 gap with the throttle in the relaxed position and then release the dashpot.
