I have shipped a lot of cars over the years to and from me some even when fuel costs where as much or more than they are now. I have never had to pay more than $750.00 to ship a car. The best quotes I am getting is in the $1100.00 range on Uship. Any ideas to try? I would like to stay under $900 ($800.00) would be perfect. Its in Bakersfield CA to Dallas TX

Really that is not a horrible price for the mileage. Might find one cheaper if you happened to find semi driver that will pick it up just because it will get him back home down in your area. I would tow it for you as I'm literally coming right to that area at the end of this month and would drive through Bakerfield. I looked up the costs one way U-haul-$600 and gas would be between $400-$500 depending on price/weather/roads. Thats not counting any extra for wear on vehicle/meals/lodging one night.

Coming from an owner/operator's point of view it ain't cheap to run these trucks...

Fuel is back up to almost $4.00 per gallon.... insurance is over $9,000.00 per year if you run 48 states. My fuel bill in 2012 was almost $70,000.00! Right now I'm looking at a $7,000.00 repair bill to have the cylinder head replaced in my Peterbilt.

The sad thing is the transportation broker may make as much as the guy hauling the load after they take their cut.... cheap freight is everywhere these days as the brokers take the cream off the top and leave the rest for the guy who is doing the real work.

One thing you may try is going to the HAMB and asking as there are a few guys there who haul cars...

I have a thread on the HAMB. I am trying to get around the broker if I can. I know it can be done. I had a guy last week that would do it for $750.00 but it had to be ready that day and my funds had not cleared yet. I figured it I got the word out in enough places someone would have a empty slot on a 3 car hauler.

I wish I could but I just can't get the days off. If it was 1000 miles or less I would just go make a maraton weekend out of it.

This is one of the biggest reasons I have a tough time buying something out west or mid west....it's just tough to buy something for a price, and have to tack on another $1200 for shipping! I feel your pain Richard.

I went through a broker...but when the driver, Serge delivered my car, he said that I could go directly through them next time I ship. I paid $950 for open trailer from Portland, Oregon to Chicago area (5 day route) back in November. $150 of that went to the broker.

Give the trucking company a call. It can't hurt. Quasar Express 773-319-2571. Car arrived undamaged but was dirty when I got because he drove through rain storm... imagine that rain in Oregon

I already did its just a bunch of low baller brokers filling up my inbox now None are actual shippers so far. They will take a deposit and not be able to fill my order but for $300 more we found a driver willing to take it. I know their game.

This is exactly the scam I ran into when I tried to get my 62 shipped from NV to VA. The $800 quotes rapidly became $1200 and more. They all suck.

Yea all they want to do is put you on central dispatch. I am already on there through a connection at work with no takers so far. I did but my price a little this morning so i will see what happens.

Someone at ROP pointed out Hillbilly Auto Shippers. I called last night and unless someone steps up pretty quick I am going with them. Even though its close to what the others are asking its the actual company that doing the work.

Lately, I've had the same problems with shipping costs as well and I've found U-Ship to be painfully overpriced. It seems a short while ago I could ship from coast to coast for $800 or so on an open trailer. Now it's much more difficult to get that price.

I have found that certain shippers run the same route on a routine basis. Sometimes every week. The trick is finding who they are. The last time I shipped a car was this past fall and I looked for shippers that were based in the pick-up or drop-off town. I was able to find one that ran close and got a decent deal that was less than what it would have cost me to take the train down and drive back.

About a year ago I shipped a car from Delaware to Dallas and used these guys. They are close to my home town and they ran to Dallas weekly. I don't know if they run other routes but it might give you jump start.

Prices are high I had my 79 Trans Am shipped from WI to Dallas, TX area for $800 in a closed trailer. A nice driver wanted to get home to OK. Looking myself at a 600 mile transport for the new toy and getting quoted $700-$800. I can go get it but trying not to waste a weekend.

I just had a '03 Mustang Cobra shipped from Chicago to Tucson for $1100. in an enclosed trailer. I had to wait a week or so. Likely because of all the auctions going on. Used the same broker that I have used before because I didn't want all the emails and calls and the guy communicates well.

oooooo so close.....A shipper was in the area for $900.00 so he went to the guys house and waiting around until about 9:30 last night Pacific time. They finally left and the guy got home about 11:30 He went fishing for the evening.
