gear

whats a good highway gear i have a 3.42 now but my rpm is too high 60 I'm hitting 3000 with a TH350 i know it would be cheaper to change the gear than to put in a overdrive tranny.

If that 3.42 is good and you do swap I'll buy the gear set

Check the calibration of your tach. To hit 3000 RPM in third (which is 1:1), you'd have to be running tires that were about 24.5" in diameter. This would be a 225/60-14, for example. For a reasonable size tire in the 26-27" diameter range, your 60 MPH revs should be 2500 or so.

Once again, I'll strongly recommend a 200-4R over changing the rear end gears. Going to 3.08s will drop your first gear effective ratio from 8.62:1 to 7.76:1. The 200-4R gives you an effective 9.37:1 off the line and 2.33:1 in OD.

Your tire is pretty short. 25.9" advertised so with weight on it you are really short. Can yo not run a 40 or possible 45 series tire?
