Fuel gauge is sprung

Drop the tank on my 72’ cutlass supreme and replaced the sending unit. *plugged the wires back in and turned the key on to check the gauge. Gauge Immediately pegged past Full. Checked the connections and realized when re-installing the tank, I knocked a wire off, plugged it back in and gauge went back to normal so I thought. When tank level gets low, gauge never goes to Empty anymore. Assuming that the gauge is sprung. Anyone else have this issue and is it possible to replace or repair the mechanism?

Thanks

If you ground the sending unit wire does the gauge go to E? If so, the gauge is likely OK and it’s something else, such as the sending unit float arm may be out of adjustment.

Thanks Fun71, I’ll give that a try!
