Frame bushings

Would it be stupid wrong to use bolt in bushings where the solid bushings go on my 65 Cutlass? Why did they use solid bushings when there are threads to accept bolt in?? Thanks in advance. Bob.

i don't know the correct answer as to why the 2 bushing on the rear don't have bolts in them but i have always added thru bolt bushings in that location ,

There are actually 4 solid mount bushings on my 65. I'm leaning towards trying to go all bolts.

The frame can flex, as you can verify if you have one removed from the car. The body does not flex appreciably, without damaging it. That may be why some of the bushings "float" instead of being bolted in. Convertible frames don't flex much at all, due to the boxing members welded to a basic (hardtop/sedan) frame.
