Flat top gets a top [battery]

Flat top gets a top [battery]
In my never ending efforts to get things more better. I decided I wanted to get my battery looking more origional. After seeing the prices and the 90 warranty on the repo ersatz "Delcos" I decide to try the Delco top and put it on a better battery. I've had good luck with Interstates so I bought a MT24 with 770 cold crank, painted the sucker flat black and top it off with one of those over priced plastic Delco battery tops.
I don't think it looks that bad.
Whacha think?

Cool! looks good. I did the same thing not long ago except I used a Delco battery.Didn't bother painting my though,I figured it's a Delco battery to begin with so I left the Delco ID alone. Besides, once it's in the car you can barley look down between the fender and battery to see the side of the battery where the id is.
Here's a couple pics of mine installed.

Looks good but the red seems to be too bright to me should be flat red?? The Delco "eye" should be in the second hole from the pos terminal... also there should be no colour on the centre of the eye because you are supossed to see green if the liquid level is OK ! so maybe put green marker on it...

That's what I was gonna do but I had an Interstate in the 69 drop top that went "Tango Uniform" and still had about 15 months of warranty left so I got a credit for the time remaining.

One dumb question. I notice you have the "eye" one cell over. Is that correct or does it matter?

I cannot answer what would be correct because I don't know.I chose placement of the "eye" based on a majority rules basis. The majority of the pics I've seen on line show this arrangement. I have seen a few different variations but "majority rules", right?
If you are able to find out 100% for sure of proper placement, please let me know. thanks

Actually the green "eye" didn't come about until sealed top batteries i.e. Delco Freedom came out. Up til that time the Delco Eye worked like this: if the battery had sufficient electrolyte in the cell the Eye was in, it showed dark. If the cell needed water, it was yellow since the tip of the Eye's probe was not covered in electrolyte.
The Eye came standard in some later Energizers but were available over the parts counter for both screw-in and push-in type cell caps. I have them in the Starfire and Hurst batteries.
Batteries from that era came "dry" and had to have electrolyte added and then charged before putting them in service. The battery's cells were plugged with a waxy substance that had to be removed before you could add electrolyte. The caps came in a separate bag in the shipping box. Based on that I doubt it makes much difference which cell the Eye is put in. None of the NOS Energizers I've bought had any instructions as to which cell the Eye went in.

Looks great Jamesbro!
I also bought one of those toppers and put it on top of the battery. Then the car would not start. Found out that my old, original cables had too much resistance in them. I just got my new spring ring cables and can't wait to put the topper back on. Also, thanks on the correct location of the delco eye. I was not sure where to put it.
