Finally bought me a wagon..

After searching for a while I finally bought me a station wagon for our camping vehicle.
I was really trying to find an Oldsmobile wagon for a good price but had to settle for a Chebby with and Olds 307 engine.
I am sure that it will do just fine for the next few years untill I can find a nice olds wagon in the future that we can afford.

Hope that you enjoy your new found ride.

Hemmings Classic Cars just did a comparison on a set of 3 wagons: 75 Chrysler T&C, Oldsmobile and Ford. Looking at the pictures brought back memories of vacation time and napping in that hotter than H@!! third seat of my parents 75 Chrysler Town and Country.

Those are fine rides, welcome to the wonderful world of wagons.

BTW, it's the "way back" seat.

This isn't my first wagon......

I did have a 79 Caprice Estate Wagon when I was 22 years old and my friends thought I was nuts when I bought it.
A single 22 year guy old driving a station wagon????????

To this day we still talk about going to the beach and going camping in the "mighty wagon" with the comfortron climate control. I think they were all closet wagon lovers as well, although they wouldn't want to admit it.

In the winter time that car would go through anything. We had a party at our house one weekend and quite a few people didn't show up because of a bad snowstorm in the area. Some roads were closed due to heavy snowfall. After a few beers, a buddy and I jumped into the wagon and drove around all night picking people up and bringing them to the party!!
We probably shouldn't have been driving but there was nobody else on the road for us to hit anyways.

Good Times!!!!!!!!

It all ended when my father called the wrecking yard to come and take MY wagon away while I was gone.
That was the end of the "mighty wagon"

Wagons are cool. It is a real bummer that most manufacturers don't make full sized wagons anymore. My wife and I bought a 1990 Buick Estate Wagon as our first car. It was pretty decent.

wagons

Since this is a wagon thread, and it looks like there are some wagon fans on here - I have the 1968 Impala wagon our family bought new in '68. It was a special order car with the 327/250hp, TH400, p/s, p/b, fact A/C, luggage rack, fact 2-tone paint ($15), and a few more options.

It's now got 142,000+ miles, engine and trans never opened, runs like a dream, and gets 15-16 mpg highway at 70. Regular maintenance and life-long garaging have kept it nice. I'm looking into Bloomington Survivor collector car status for it. Paint, chrome, interior, and engine bay are all original.

It still sees occasional use, when it's not parked and covered. It will be hauling 2x4's and plywood for a project in the near future, since it was designed to carry 4x8 sheets in between the wheel wells. Don't see many old wagons on the road anymore. The Sears tower pic was taken when I drove it to Chicago for the Sta-Bil cruise and car show.

well since we are on the topic of wagons I figured I would mention my wagon.Though it is only a mid size it has history.I have a 1983 chevy malibu wagon. The car has been in the family since new.My grandfather bought it new had it for 6 yrs then my mother had it till some dork ram into it.then it was repaired and my sister got it.She had it for I'd say four to six yrs then I got it.THe car has a strong 305 and th350 (though she leaks needs new seals)but there is history on that too (she smokes due to some guy not getting the old oil filter ring off before putting on the new one nuff said)I have had family tell me get rid of it but I wont it has history and is like a Heirloom.

Vista

Of all my cars, my Vista get's the most comments. "My mom used to drive me to baseball practice in one of those."

Mine is a 455 w/ buckets, consol, tic toc tach, 15" SSII's air shocks and best of all 4 sunvisors.

Plus of course "A Tiger in the Tank"

I love it when we go to a car show and someone will walk up and speak softly to someone standing next to them and say, "Now, this is a really rare car, they just didn't make too many Hurst/Olds Wagons"! Or, they will figure out I'm the owner, walk over and ask, "Did they REALLY make one of these?"! We have a great deal of fun with the Silver Bullet, even with those Oldsmobile folks that "know" the real story.

I can't believe you put a poor, defensless cat in your gas tank. I'm reporting you to PETA!

Thumbs up Baby got back

I've been wondering about that poor unfortunate Tiger for a long time.
How many miles per Tiger a 455 gets is my question.

I wonder if Bears get better mileage than Tigers?
There are plenty of Bears here and we really need to end our dependence on foreign Tigers in this country.

The loyal station wagon (stationus wagonus), it can take you anywhere a "regular" car can and work for it's room and board like a farm animal.

They're a lot like a mullet haircut also...business in the front and party in the back.

Since I also own one of those, I won't hold it against you. Be aware that the 77-90 B-body wagons all use identical sheet metal from the firewall-back. That's why the Custom Cruisers of that vintage use front fenders that differ from those on the sedans. The Custom Cruisers use the Chevy wagon doors and quarters, which do not match the Olds sedan front fenders. Find a Custom Cruiser nose and your Caprice becomes an Olds.

Similarly, the dash interchanges also. There is a bolt-on inner support that can be changed to allow an Olds dash to bolt to the Caprice.

A 90 Buick Estate happens to be my daily driver, since we just bought the wife a new Colorado. The Estate has cold air, power everything, cruise, nice seats, gets 18 mpg on the highway and holds a full sized sheet of plywood with the doors closed. Oh yeah, pulls the boat, too.

Since we are talking wagons, here is a pic of my now deceases 83,

I guess you either love them, or you hate them. My brother in-law told me that he wouldn't be caught dead in a station wagon.
I informed him that a hearse is just like a station wagon and he will probably be caught dead in one if he likes it or not.

I might consider purchasing a mid 80s Cutlass station wagon to replace my VW Beetle. I want something that is big enough to haul the kid and dogs around in but not so big the wife will hate to drive it.

I really like the pic of your 83 Captain. What happened to it?
