Fastenal shipping experience...

I just shipped a TH400 transmission from Greencastle Indiana to PA. From what I have experienced so far it is a great deal. It was $90 for a transmission on a pallet. They told me if I will be a repeat customer they can almost always ship a pallet under 500 lbs for $90 anywhere in the 47 states. They can NOT ship to California but they can ship out of California. I will update you when the transmission gets to its destination.

What is the weight of a 455 or 350 engine? May be able to ship an engine for $90 if it is under 500 LBS.

jensenracing77, Did you talk to them on the phone or do the email quote thing? That is a super price. Was wondering if that made a difference. I got an engine block and manifold shipped by them from Idaho to Boston and it was about $225.00. I'm getting some other parts shipped from Texas to Boston soon and I will probably use them again. While the price wasn't as good as yours, it was certainly cheaper than regular freight. That's a killer. Had a pair of buckets shipped regular freight from Illinois to Boston and it was $238. Half the weight, half the distance, more money. Ended up those seats were completely junk, but that's another story.

I've shipped & received items using Fastenal. It a really good deal & they are easy to work with. Can't go wrong with big heavy items.

I did both. The local guy give me the details of how to do it on there website. I did that and it was very easy. Thet emailed me a form, I had to print it, fill it out and fax it back to them. You could likely scan it and email it back. I never talked to the guy on the phone till tonight. I wanted to get more details about some of this. I am not sure what other places ship cranks for but he said they would be around $75. I also ask about the 500 lb skid and he said as long as it is under 500 lbs I should be ok at $90. I am not sure if that is my price or there standard?

My only problem is that I will have to tack on $10-$15 to there price because they are 40 miles round trip for me.

Sooo, Eric. How big a pallet? Maybe they will ship an OAI hood on a big 'enclosed pallet' for the same price?? It's waaay less than 500 lbs.....Have you asked them about this kind of option? I know you were looking for the best way to ship an OAI hood a while back.

What is this Fastenal? Is it not the company that makes fasteners? Is it strictly a shipping company?

They mostly sell bolts and fasteners of all kinds. They also carry a large selection of tools, even Craftsman. We buy from them alot at work.

I am not sure about that yet. I thought about asking but I will start with standard pallet sized parts for now. I think they mostly use pickup trucks but I am not sure of that.

on there home page then go to...
services...
third party logistics (3PL)...
then fill it out.
they will send an email with a printable sheet to fill out that is very simple.
I faxed mine in and they let the stores know to expect the package to show up.
They will call the person receiving the item when it gets there to come pick it up.

I have used them 5 or 6 times and two shipments to California with no issues. They won't ship anywhere pallet for $97 sometimes up to $250 but still a bargain and they take great care of what is shipped. Not like LTL carriers.

Good to know, thanks. Will keep that in mind the next time I'm looking to ship something big.
