Exterior door handles
#4
The outside looks the same but I believe there's a difference inside the door. I know I've got some with a single pin behind the button, and others with a "T" behind the button. I don't know if the depth is different, but I'll look around to see what I can find to take pictures of.
This is the case on 1970-72 but I'm not sure on the 1966-67 vintage.

I installed GM 70-72 Chevelle outside handles on my 71 442. Different part number but compared side by side and saw no difference. I can't look up the # right now, they may still be available, but I did this many years ago.

OK, I've come up with a couple to compare. The 1966 handle has a longer rod behind the button than the 1970. The chrome part looks the same, but I don't know how difficult it would be to swap out the rods.
Back to the 1970-72, it's the back seat on 4 doors and wagons that have a long release rod with a T shape to the end. I'm not sure about the front doors on these car. John

It is easy to take the button out of the handle. Just rotate the plate that the rod goes through at the back of the handle. If you have to, you can also braze an extension onto the shaft. I take the handles apart to replace the "O" ring that is on the button that cushions it when you let go of the button after opening the door. Most of the time, they are missing, or dried out. This isn't an Olds handle, however, you can see that they are all made alike, except for the outside contour to match the vehicle it is going to be used with.
