ebay 67 442
guys i noticed this 67 cutlass 442 convertible on ebay today and there is a numerous amount of pictures to look at. a side from the stripping being totally incorrect it looks pretty much like a 442 from under carriage up. but looking at pic of cowl tag, do not see 5v on tag just 5y. can the experts chime in on this ,i was lead to believe no v no 442. if that's the case someone did a lot of work cloning. THOUGHTS???

All 1967 442s EXCEPT those built at Fremont got the 5V cowl tag code. Fremont for some reason did not use that code. Unfortunately, that means that there are now about ten times as many Fremont-built 442s as were actually made. Unfortunately, unless you post a link to the auction, it's difficult to give you thoughts on the car in question.

You and I know that, but I guarantee this seller (and most people) have no idea what a P-O-P is. Do you really think the ebay car has a P-O-P?

Here's another example. Per the P-O-P, my 67 Delta is "numbers matching", despite the fact that the engine is a 1969 455. The only engine part that's original to the car is the passenger side cylinder head.

The 67-older cowl tags had five "groups" for Fisher Body accessory codes. The "5" represents Group 5 (note that the "1" for Group 1 accessories was left off on those). The V represents RPO W-29. The Y represents deluxe seat belts.
On that particular cowl tag, the "W" is really a Group 1 W, which represents tinted windshield.
The "2XG" represents Group 2 X - floor shifter for automatic trans and Group 2 - G for console.
Obviously this car is not a factory built four speed, nor is it a factory built 442.

No, actually the seller ended the auction claiming that the listing was in error and relisted it with new info. The "matching numbers" claim is gone and the ad now says " *L78 442 PACKAGE(ADDED) ". Apparently the seller either reads CO or someone else called BS.

Car was purchased at Mecum Kissimmee a few weeks ago for $34,100 including buyers premium. Looks like a dealer did not pay enough attention to what he bought!

That "original drivetrain" should have had an open element air cleaner on a 4spd car. The aftermarket small diameter brake booster is also an issue. The dash pad has obviously been painted, since it doesn't match the glovebox in color or gloss. And a factory M21 car would have come with a 3.91 rear axle.
