67's on Ebay
67's on Ebay
Not to degrade or knock these cars down on e-bay but I think both are clones. Would I be correct in my assumption? The door panels and headlight bezels are what I noticed right away. Again, I'm not knocking down EB, I got my blue car on EB, it's just they shouldn't be passed as such. Anyone bidding should challenge the seller I guess.

I like in the description of the black one how he describes "Pete" pulling the car out of his warehouse. Who the hell is Pete?
As far as whether or not these cars are really 442s or just clones, they were talking about this on the HD Theater broadcast of the Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, Florida that 67Olds442X2 mentioned in the other thread where a '67 442 was sold. It is fairly easy to create a '67 442 after the fact because the 442 was an option package that year, and the options, or at least most of them, could be acquired later and tacked on.
In the broadcast, they talked about how that particular car had all kinds of paperwork and other supporting documentation (protect-o-plate, original window sticker, etc.) to prove that it was a real 442. I think this is what any seller of a car like this would have to have to prove that what they're selling is real. If I were bidding on either of these eBay cars, for instance, I would certainly ask the seller for whatever he has that can prove his claim that what he's selling is a 442.

Well, the red car has "5V" on the cowl tag. Also note the pitting in the 442 emblems, which indicates that they are likely not repros. There's no shot of the cowl tag for the black car, but this is one of those unrestored cars where all the right parts seem to have been in place since the car was born. Hard to tell for sure without first-hand inspection.
Both of these cars are Cutlass Supreme Sports Coupes (post cars), and I believe that is why you are confused about the interiors. The interiors of the CS Sports Coupes are different than that the CS Holiday Coupes and Convertibles. The door panels on the black one are indeed correct, including the pull handle.
However the door panels are *not* correct on the red car, they are Holiday Coupe door panels, even though that has already been established to be a 442..
They stated
"Our inspection of the vehicle exterior reveals High Quality Paint Work with no notable flaws. Exterior Trim Items are a combination of well preserved original and restored/replaced as needed. Good Body Panel fit, and both doors open and close nicely. "
I wonder who lined up the fenders and hood.

Rog, never seen a sport coupe, mine are holiday coupes and have paddle handles and "C/S" on the door panels. Now the "5V", I assume it doesn't mean 442, it's that all 442's from those places had it. I've read that "5VY" is deluxe seat belts, so "5V" must be standard maybe? My blue car has "5V" and has the standard belts with the blue "GM" button. My other car has deluxe belts but was built in Fremont. So I guess what is "5V"
For some reason both cars got cutlass headlight bezels. I know one clue that's not visible in the pictures , the brake line for the right front was routed different on 442's.
Oh well, just curious, didn't mean for this to go round and round. Got to get back to my engine installation. Thanks for the input.

5 is the Fisher Body "broadcast column" number.
A "V" in column 5 is for the 442 trim, so a V after the 5 confirms that it *is* a 442.
A "Y" in column 5 is for deluxe seats belts.
The letters are mutually exclusive.
The red post makes me want to puke.............at least get the facts straight when you sell it........wrong interior nice class act..... my kids would do better getting the fender hood to fit better........... I bet you 100 bucks there is no mounts under that rad support
pins are maxed out.everything is sucked up way to tight...

As Joe said the 5V means that the red one is indeed a 442 (for Lansing and Framingham cars of which this is one).
