Dusted the car tonight

Well as the title says I dusted my 442 tonight in the rain. It was STUPID of me to drive it to work when I knew the first rain of the year was coming, but being from Chicago and driving in the snow I never thought anything of it. It's just rain after all.

Rain and all that oil that had built up over the past 3-4 months with no rain what so ever that makes the road slicker than driving on slick ice.

I just BARELY, and I do mean BARELY touched the throttle and it got sideways on me. Got way out of control and I smacked head on (moving sideways) into a pole and spun around. The front of the car is gone. The OAI hood split to top off and the battery slid 45 feet and cracked a window at a nail salon.

The engine looked OK, but it was dark and I'm in pain. I smacked my head above the window on the roof and I have a pretty large welt. My left knee is a bit sore from hitting the dash and I scrapped my right elbow on the console I think. My ribs are just getting a tad sore, but nothing to really complain about.

I was checked out at the ER and I'm basically batter and bruised, but I'll be fine in a few days.

I had the car towed to my uncles house where I'll get better pics of it tomorrow.

I'm selling it, but if I part it out or not depends on if I can get enough for it as it sits. I don't want to leave it at his house for too long so If I get an offer that I can live with I'll take it. Otherwise I'll have to start ripping it apart.

More tomorrow.

I don't have the space needed to fix it. The frame is gone and will need to be replaced. I do happen to have a frame I was going to put under the car when I got a garage, but I don't have that yet.

So if someone had the space the shell is savable I believe, just not by me.

It's not your fault, Things happen, maybe you didn't drive your 442 enough. Hope you feel better. It's always sad to have a wreck and deal with the aftermath. I hope you feel better.

I feel your pain; having totaled Big Red back in June, just so disheartenng to have that happen. Main thing is you ARE OK! Good luck on whatever path you choose with the car.

Glad to hear you're okay.

I hope you had some good insurance with good coverages so that you don't take a bath in the payout.
Best of luck man. I know what it's like to not have space to do repairs.

Glad to hear that you are going to be alright, and I'm sorry about your car. This was clearly a conspiracy formulated by your neighbors to get your parking spot!!

Sorry to hear that, but glad you're okay.

Look at it this way: These sorts of accidents were common as dirt back in the day.
I don't know how many times I put my Chevelle sideways in the rain, but I know I put two noses on it over the years (those darn cowl hoods cost FIFTY BUCKS each ).

No weight on rear wheels + poor traction + lots o' torque = your rear bumper is coming around to say "Hi!"

If it's totalled, it's totalled, but between insurance and money from selling what you can't use, you should be able to be riding in something nice again in not too too long .

That's what I thought it meant, too. I was surprised to read otherwise.

svnt442, you will have to get another one to keep your username correct!

Glad to hear that it was only the car that got damaged (and a nail salon window--bet they'll be telling that story in there for some time to come--"did I ever tell you about the car battery that came crashing through our store window?")

these things happen. you are in one piece and the car can be too if you want. as much as I hate to admite it I have done the same. I totaled my 70 SX conv. a long time ago but did not want to get rid of it so I fixed it. new front clip and a new frame and no one knows the difference. I hit mine hard enough to push the passenger A pillar back a couple of inches at the top. any thing can be fixed. after all it did not exist till some one welded a bunch of parts together back in 1970. take some time to feel better and get past the aggrivation and look at it in the light of day, you may want to fix it rather than scrap it.

WOW, glad you are (mostly) ok. You will feel that for awhile.

I would round up about 5 good friends and a torch and get that shell
bolted down to your other frame. Its not that hard to do.

that car being a 70 442 is definitely worth saving.

My head is feeling better but my ribs have been bothering me so the doctor gave me a week off of work. I can't open my mouth all the way so eating sandwiches is a bit tricky. The muscles on the side of your head are what control your jaw and you never realise it until they are hurt.

I have updated and added some more pics to the album.

I want to get rid of the car whole, but it's got to be to someone willing to do a complete resto on the car. The floor took a bit of a hit on the passenger side and the console took a beating, but I have another one in the garage.

I took a closer look at the front of the frame and it's WASTED on both sides.

On top of all of this my ribs have been hurting like mad so the doctor told me to take a week off of work. Fun, fun, fun.
